HOWARD DONALD

Howard Donald, the oldest of the ex.Take That members, was born on the 28th of April, 1968 in Droylsden, Manchester. He grew up with a sister and three brothers. Both his parents were involved in the entertainment business - his father thaught Latin dancing classes and his mother was a very talented singer. Howard's parents divorced when he was 8 years old. He remembers it as a very traumatic time, when he went through a period of nightmares. As a teenager, he spent a lot of time in the local Manchester clubs breakdancing. It was here he met Jason Orange and together they formed 'Street Beat' and began performing together. Later, they joined Mark Owen and Gary Barlow (who were known as 'The Cutest Rush') and Take That had begun. Although at first Howard's "job" was to dance, he soon began to shine in the music side of things: writing 'If This is Love' for Take That's second album, 'Everything Changes', and singing lead vocals on Take That's second last single, 'Never Forget'. When Take That announced they were to split, Howard seemed to be the most upset and weary. However, this did not stop him writing over a 100 songs for his future solo career. Things seemed to look bleak, however, when after over two years since the break-up Howard did not have a record contract. On Monday the 14th of September 1998, Howard played his first solo show at Prague V, in Manchester. He sang five songs: 'Story So Far', 'Love Power', 'Speak Without Words', 'Saying a Prayer', and 'Never Forget' in the hope of a record deal.
