DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT Tripod passed away in his sleep in the early hours of 1 December 1999. He was 31 months and 10 days of age. His web page will continue as a tribute.

Tripod was born 21 April 1997 to Toto, his sweet brown and white banded mother who pased away on September 6, and Ziggy, his black and white "teddy bear hamster" father. He is one of a litter of eight, two females and six males, all of them black and white fluffy like their father. He has several older siblings, including brother Nico and sister Domino.         Soon after Tripod and the rest of the litter were able to crawl out of the nest, we noticed that he was missing his left hind leg. Tripod got around kind of awkwardly at first, but he managed to keep pace with the rest of the litter. By the time the other little nest-mates were ready to go to the pet shop, Tripod was actually larger than several of his siblings. He is able to run up and down the walls of his wire cage and even runs very fast (just like a "normal" hamster) on his little hamster wheel.         Tripod remained his entire with the family which has become very much attached to him. Until adulthood he shared a cage with his parents and fourteen younger brothers and sisters who were born June 1.
