Potpouri Mamma & Baby Bear

Supplies Needed:

46 yards of jute twine, or clothesline twine 2 - 7 mm Black Beads 2 -5 mm Black Beads scraps of ribbons small amount of potpouri tapestry needle, US G/4.50 mm crochet hook (you may need to increase or decrease hook size to meet finished requirements)

Finished Size:

Mamma Bear - 4 1/2 inches Baby Bear - 3 1/4 inches Note: Repeat pattern twice for each bear to make a front and a back.

Potpouri Mamma Bear

Legs: Make 2.

Row 1: Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, ch 1, turn. (2 sc)

Row 2: Sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc , ch 1, turn. (3 sc)

Rows 3-4: Repeat row 2. Fasten off 1st leg only.

Body: Working on 2nd leg, ch 1, turn at end or Row 4.

Row 1: Sc in next 3 sc, insert hook into first sc of row 4 of first leg made, (fastened off leg) sc in next 3 dc ( the two legs are now joined), ch 1, turn. (6 sc)

Row 2: Sc in each sc across body. (6 sc)

Row 3: sc tog first two stitches together, (dec made) sc in each of the next 2 sc, dec over last 2 sts, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 4: Sc in each stitch across body, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 5: 2 sc in next sc, (inc. made) sc in each of next 2 sc, inc. in next sc, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)

Row 6: Sc in each stitch across body, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)

Row 7: Rep row 3.

Row 8: sc tog first two stitches together, (dec made) sc in next sc, ch 1, turn. (3 sc)

Row 9: Sc in each stitch across body, do NOT turn. (3 sc) Fasten off 1rst body piece only.

Finishing: Place both body pieces together, insert hook into both piece at the end of row 9 and sl st both pieces together, (ch 3 and make 3 dc in the first st, ch 3, sl st in first st again (left ear made), sl stitch around head to row 6 of body, (ch 3, 2dc in st, sl stitch in same st again, (left arm made), continue sl stitching the body together around the body and legs. Repeat the instructions for left arm, then fill bear with potpouri, continue sl stitching the pieces together until you come to row 8 on the right side and complete as you did for the left ear. Sl st across the top of bear's head, fasten off, be sure to leave 1 yard of twine for hanging. Weave in any ends and sew on 7 mm beads for eyes, a ribbon around one ear and at the neck.

Potpourii Baby Bear

Legs (Make 2)

Row 1: Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in the next ch, ch 1, turn. (2sc)

Row 2: Sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. (2 sc)

Join legs as you did for Mamma Bear, except there will be 4 sc across, ch 1, turn. (This counds as Row 1 for Baby bear's body.)

Body:

Row 2: Sc in each stitch across body of bear, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 3: Sc tog first two sc, (dec made) and dec in last 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (2 sc)

Row 4: Sc in each sc across baby's body, ch 1, turn. (2 sc)

Row 5: 2 sc in each sc across baby's body, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 6: Sc in each sc across baby's body, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 7: Sc tog first two sc, (dec made) sc in next sc. Fasten off first piece only. (3 sc)

Finishing: Place both pieces together and join together with a sl st at the end of row 7, (ch 3, hdc in the same sp, ch 3, and sl st in same stitch again) (ear made), sl st both pieces together until you reach row 4 of body, then repeat instructions to make ear, (left arm made) continue to sl st the body together around legs and body until you reach row 4. Repeat ear instructions (right arm made), stuff lightly with potpouri, sl st around to row 6, repeat ear instrucitons again (right ear made), place twine from Mamma Bear inside top of head. Sl st across the head to finish off. Fasten off and weave ends into work. Sew on the 5mm eyes, tie a ribbon around Baby's neck, and sew a ribbon around opposite ear than Mamma's

Hang Potpouri Bears in your kitchen or bathroom for decoration.
