For the past ten years or so (on and off), Michigan has been my home. And (believe it or not) I really do like it. Even the nine feet of snow every winter. And the ungodly humidity every summer.
What's so great about Michigan, you ask? Well...it was the 23rd state to join the Union. It fought a war with Ohio (can you believe THIS?) over TOLEDO! It was a jackpot for the lumbering industry, yet another site for Native American persecution, and the birthplace of the lightbulb and the automobile.
Modern Michigan is basically a tourist trap, but (as you can see from the picture) we Michiganders have a sense of humor about ripping off tourists who don't know any better! That particular tourist trap is courtesy of some creative yoopers, which are folks who live in the upper peninsula (U.P.-thus "yooper") of Michigan. Yoopers have their own little view about just about everything, including creation. They also tend to have their own interpretation of standard English, as exhibited in Da Yoopers Glossary.
To clarify: I am not a yooper. I just like the way they think!
There's more to Michigan than Yoopers, though!
We are also known for our beautiful beaches, wonderful historic sites, and breathtaking scenery (with five huge lakes, what would you expect?). The following sites give you the basics about travelling in the mitten.
If you still aren't convinced that Michigan is a neat place, please go to Hell. Hell, MI that is! *grin*
Okay, actually, it's back to the directory...
