One Starlit Hour

When Mary saw the shining star

That night outside the stable door,

A holy hush came softly down

About her on the hay-strewn floor

Gently she held her precious Son

As Angel voices filled the sky;

With one accord the little lambs

Knelt round to hear her lullaby.

She had no fear that starlit hour

To cause the sudden tears to start;

Instead, she dreamed her lovely dreams

And stored them safely in her heart.

There, in golden candlelight,

Robed in her simple cloak of blue,

She smiled with pride upon her Babe

As mothers with their first-born do.
