QUOTE FROM ELVIS
"Ive been lucky, and you know something? I just feel sometimes like its all a dream, like I'll rub my eyes & wake up and it will all be over. I hope not. I hope it never happens. I hope it never ends." By Elvis"
“There have been a lotta tough guys. There have been pretenders
And there have been contenders. But there is only one king.” By Bruce Springsteen
* More than 7,000 people jammed Ellis Auditorium on
the night of May 15, 1956, to stomp, shudder, shriek and
sigh as a young Elvis Presley writhed his way through a
rock and roll repertoire. Presley was the blockbuster of
Bob Neal's Cotton Picking Jamboree, a feature of
Cotton Carnival opening night.
* Maid of Cotton Patricia Cowden (left) and
Memphis Cotton Carnival Queen Clare Mallory gave Elvis Presley
royal kisses just before the rock and roll singer walked on stage
before a packed Ellis Auditorium audience on the night of May 15, 1956.
* Elvis Presley performs what would be his last Memphis concert
July 5, 1976, before a crowd of 12,000 at the Mid-South Coliseum.
Twenty-two years earlier to the day, Elvis recorded 'That's All Right'
at Sam Phillips' little studio at 706 Union. Introducing the song,
he said: 'I've had some people say - well, you can't do that song anymore -
well, you, by God, just watch me.'
* Clutching an Elvis Presley 'Love Me Tender' wrist watch,
Sue Manker was all aflutter when the rock and roll king bussed her
Nov. 30, 1956, at Crump Stadium. The singer was tardy and missed the
opportunity to crown her as queen of half-time activities at the
E.H. Crump Memorial Football Game for the Blind. But what a consolation prize!
* Elvis Presley and Arthur O'Connell in the 1962 movie,
'Follow That Dream.' The movie also featured Anne Helm, Joanna Moore,
Alan Hewitt, Herbert Rudley, Simon Oakland, Howard McNear and Roland Winters.
It was based on the novel 'Pioneer, Go Home' by Richard Powell. (United Artists)
* Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret in undated (circa 1964-1965) photograph.
She starred with Presley in 1964's 'Viva Las Vegas.'
* Technical details during filming of 'Roustabout' are studied
here by Elvis Presley at the camera and Chet Stafford, chief gaffer
on the film, who spots the lighting. Filmed in Technicolor and Techniscope,
'Roustabout' was a Hal Wallis production starring Presley and
co-starring Barbara Stanwyck, Joan Freeman and Leif Erickson.
John Rich directed. (Paramount)
* When Elvis Presley, who rides a motorcycle in current film, 'Roustabout,'
learned co-star Barbara Stanwyck could ride a motorcycle, Elvis promptly
hoisted the four-time Academy Award nominee aboard a motorcycle built for
two and they were off in a cloud of dust to the amazement of
everybody March 20, 1964, in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Elvis and Miss Stanwyck
are shown in a cow pasture where the film company was on location. (UPI)
* Elvis Presley in Stay Away, Joe. a 1968 comedy-drama
western film with musical interludes set in modern times also
starring Burgess Meredith and Joan Blondell.
Elvis is the first king of rock and roll,
If there ever is a second one, Elvis will still be the first.
We all really miss him."
After the concert in Des Moines Iowa, June 23, Ronnie Tutt leaves the band for good.
He is replaced with Jerome Monroe (June 24) and Larrie Londin (June 25 and 26).
In Madison, Wi-June 24th Elvis Presley sings 'One Night' for the last time.
While driving to Madison, Elvis stops the car so he could get out to assist a
gas station attendant who is set upon by two youth.
The fight came to a sudden end, as the two youth was shocked by the fact
that Elvis Presley stood in front of them. The whole scene ended with Elvis
getting them to shake hand, promise not to fight anymore, and finally a picture taken of all three. From the newspaper

A little about us.
The Elvis Connection Fan Club has
been together since August 14th,1994.
Since that time we have held several
fund-raisers locally.
Our benefactors have consisted of
The N.Y Firefighters & The N.Y. United Way
for Sept. 11th 2001 disaster in which we
raised over $1600.00, also,
The U.W. Children's Hospital,
The U.W. Child - Life Center,
The U.W. Leukemia Center
which a special account was developed by
Prof. Paul Sondel
for special patient and family access to be
used for their special wants and/or needs
during their stay. We have also made donations
to our local Ronald McDonald House in the
monetary form and in making their wish
list not a dream but a reality.
On August 14th 1998 we held a fund - raiser
for our local Muscular Dystrophy Assn.
We were able to contribute a total of
$703.00 to their cause. $113.00 dollars
of this was raised by a jail and bail we
did jailing no - less jailing our DJ M.C.
that night. To him we say THANKS! We also
had some Beanie Baby vendors come in and
make a donation to Muscular Dystrophy at
the end of the night. It was a fun night.
We also did a fund - raiser for The Elvis
Presley Trauma Center in which $1000.00 was
raised. On January 8th 1999, we attended
the wolx Elvis Birthday Bash. With the sale
of specially licensed Rosebowl T-Shirts we
sent a check to The Ronald McDonald House
for $50.00 from the sale of the shirts.
We also are set for August 6th, 1999 which
was the date for our fund-raiser for Muscular
Dystrophy. As for some of our clubs goals we
have received our 1st plaque from The Elvis
Presley Trauma Center in which we donated
$1000.00 to The Med-Center. We also have a
cement tile in the Monona Terrace Convention
Center Here locally, so Elvis's name is
forever embedded in the rooftop garden there!
It is interesting to note that
between 1960-1969 Elvis total was 6232
to the Beatles 5964 for the same period.
TOTAL CHARTED SINGLES
ELVIS = 149
Beatles = 69
TOTAL WEEKS AT #1

Beatles = 59
Elvis had 42 top twenty hits, 3 more than
the Beatles.
Elvis released 31 singles between 1956-1963 making available 62 songs for possible
chart action - he charted 67.7% of his released singles between 1956-1962
The Beatles released 41 singles between 1964-1970 they charted 47.5% of their released
singles between 1964-1970.
This does indicate that Elvis does top the Beatles in terms of chart activity when
comparing their peak years.
Overall chart single history - Elvis wins hands down with the
following chart success since 1962
Elvis 1963-1986 = 26 top twenty singles
Beatles 1971-1986 = 2 top twenty singles
Elvis 1963-1986 = 8 Top Ten
