VGA Planets Homepage

I believe the real reason that VGA Planets has been around for so long is that it is mechanically simplistic and strategically complex.

The mechanical simplicity of the game allows any new to the game to easily figure out what is needed to do to run a turn. Ships have very few things that they can do. You can load and transfer cargo, set ship destinations, and set ship missions. Planets can build structures (factories, mines and defenses), and tax. Starbases can build defense, build fighters, build ships, and upgrade technology. This allows a new player to quickly determine their actions without a lot of unnecessary extras.

Even with this simplicity, there is an extreme complexity of strategy. Since you only have total information on your forces, and not any of the other races, you must make specific decisions that will affect your forces today, while providing sufficient support in the future.

The combinations of possible moves is nearly endless. One must balance the building of warships against building of support ships or using those materials to build more bases. The varying racial abilities means you must prepare against those near you, while still planning against your other opponents and their tactics too, since you may defeat your closest enemies and then need to deal with the others. Also, the most important of the strategic necessities, moving ships to and from battles and supplying them creates a whole set of possibilities and problems.

I have made many addons for VGA Planets. I have posted all of the ones I have done testing and released in the My Addons section. I have a few others that haven't been tested or completely implemented. Most of this is due to low or non-existant feedback on the ones I have made. A few of these have even been done as requests.

The Addons Archive will be restricted to addons only due to space, I won't have all the host and client programs there, however, I hope to have all the addons I can find.

I have also made a page for the current projects I am working on. Though I probably won't list all of them here, I will list the ones that are most likely to be completed when I get enough time to work on them.
