Blue dragons, perhaps the most mystical of all dragons, tend to be found in arid climates.
Their sky blue scales help them while in flight as they are camoflauged against
the hot blue sky of the desert. The blue dragon's favorite tactic to is
to bury themselves in the sand and ambush travellers as they pass. Since they
live in such a harsh environment, blue dragons tend to be the most resilient
of all the dragons. They are very often associated with the mystical charm
that can be found in desert cultures similar to ancient Arabia. The most fascinating
aspect of the blue dragon is its ability to "breathe" lightning at will. The
entrance of such a dragon is usually proceeded by a bright flash of unnatural
lightning striking the ground and blasting it. The image to the left is
an example of what a blue dragon would look like. Note the mountainous
terrain in the background. Blue dragons sometimes live in mountains located in
deserts.
Xythanderan, the ancient blue dragon, has dwelled in the old desert lands of Kilchena for hundreds of years. The picture to the left was conceived by an adventurous artist, who survived only by saying that he wanted to paint the image of Xythanderan so that all people could know of his majesty and power. Such flattery saved the brash painter's life and the painting was brought back, intact. Although Xythanderan is intelligent and cunning, his greatest weakness is his vanity and ego. Many potential victims bright enough escaped Xythanderan's wrath with flattery.
