Scans of maps and pictures of
Mutsu
(Mutsu)

Night view of Mutsu
Mutsu City, my hometown's sister city, sits up in northren Japan on the Shimokita Peninsula of Aomori Pref. It was the first Japanese city to have its name written in hiragana instead of kanji. It has a population of 50,000 and is surrounded by mountains and the ocean, very similar to my hometown.

The following maps & pictures were all scanned out of Japanese pamphlets.

Pictures from Mt. Osorezan

Mt. Osore is one of the creepiest places on earth. These scans don't do it justice. You'd really have to see it for yourself. To read about my time at Osore, go to day 6 of the journals.

The temple at Osore.

Piles of rocks at Osore.

Above: Piles of rocks, to commemorate the dead.

Below: The lake that contains no life. (Click here for a pic of me standing in front of the same lake)

The 'dead lake', with sticks in front

the sulphur that's everywhere at Osore
The sulphur, that hangs in the air, runs down the rocks, and colors the water yellow
