WWII COMFORT WOMEN:
Hidden in the Shadows of History
This is to be a work in progress, started 28 May 2000. After viewing the documentary "Silence Broken: Korean Comfort Women" (shown on PBS 18 May 2000), I am more than convinced that this is an issue that must be brought to the international forefront, not only because of its prominence as a feminist topic but also because of:
(1) Japan's (and even Asia's) growing international importance and (2) the way in which this issue represents Japan's past and present relationship with Asia and her way of coming to terms with her own war crimes during the Second World War.
I am compiling research (internet-based, for now) in order to obtain a detailed and comprehensive glimpse of this issue as well as to share it with others who are interested and hopefully spread awareness of it, since for the most part, I am sure this topic is not covered in high school history textbooks in the
United States.
As i have just now begun researching, for now, all i
can share are several good links i have come across.
But check back every so often for i will be adding
more of my findings periodically.
If you have information on comfort women that you can
share with me, or any sources I can check out, please
email me at Chennee@aol.com. I truly appreciate it.
