Richard VANCE was born about 1792 probably in Russell, County Virginia. He is the son of Abner VANCE and Susannah HOWARD. He married Mary A. SIMMS about 1813. Mary A. SIMMS was born about 1792. She is the daughter of Mary A. SIMMS. Richard VANCE died about 1850/60. Richard VANCE and Mary A. SIMMS had 9 children that I have listed. They are:

(3) Richard VANCE II b. 1817,
(4) Mary "Polly" VANCE b. 1818,
(5) John Wesley VANCE b.,
(6) Washington Anderson VANCE,

(9) Lewis G. VANCE b. 1839.
The 1850 Logan County Va/WVa Census has the following people living in the household of Richard and Mary A. VANCE: Polly VANCE age 32, John W. VANCE age 10, William VANCE age 2, Richard VANCE Jr. age 12, Mary PARTING age 74, listed as Mother-N-Law.
Mary Ann (SIMMS) VANCE reported the death of Mary PARTEN her Mother, on 4-Jul-1853 in Logan County West Virginia. Mary PARTEN'S Father was reported as Drury SIMMS, the Revolutionary War Hero.
