Fire

ryads fear and abhore fire. The risk of forest fire is just too great, and so they have never used it in all their history. All their metal work is done by extremely skilled smiths, who gently pry, chip, and smooth the metal to the deisred shape. In order to be able to see at night, Dryads have collected many large rocks of a certain mineral combination that allows them to pick up light during the day and glow when it is dark. The Dryads put these rocks on staffs, belts, and in lamps, and allow them to soak up the light all day long. They produce a soft, greenish glow that allows the Dryads to see well enough to write, read, or travel at night.
