Information and analytical data about different characteristics of population health in Russia, its modern problems, trends, common social-biological laws of health and health peculiarities forming.

The main problem of Russia's population health are very high rates of mortality. Is this parameter correlating with other health characteristics, and these ones - are they rapidly decreasing and at the same time stay worse from other countries ones?

For the resolution of this problem it is necessary to examine and evaluate several aspects of population health forming in different conditions, including contemporary life ones, which have changed the life values characteristics of the wide masses of population.

The Semashko Institute traditionally provided comprehensive sample studies of population's health in different direction. He uses all possible data sources and has analytical materials for several years :

  • official statistics for main demographic parameters (mortality, the causes of mortality, birth rates, morbidity, public health care and other available in the official sources)
  • results of sample studies as a rule around population Census (for strong denominator) the last one 1989-1991 include information for each person
  • morbidity data by using medical records, medical examination (a team of 9 doctors)
  • interview survey (self-assessemt of health, life style and life conditions for children and adults separately)
  • health interview survey for monitoring health, health problems, health care
    • 1986 and 1991 (inside the USSR)
    • 1995, 1996-in Russian Federation
    • 1997-in the frame trial census of population
    • 1998 -now in process
  • monitoring and evaluation anthropometric parameters of children in different regions and ethnic groups in Russia (1960-1996), comprehensive evaluation of physical development of children
