JOB EXPERIENCE:
 
Jan. 2014-present - I presently do volunteer work for the National Retired Senior Volunteer Program through my local senior center. I am a once-a-week Meals on Wheels driver with a route near my home; and I assist the senior center in a variety of other volunteer tasks. I continue to volunteer through my local church.

Jan. 2012-Dec. 2013 - Permanently retired.

Jan. 1989-Jan. 2012 - Retired from Federal Civil Service. I was a substitute teacher for elementary, intermediate and high schools in the St. Mary's County (Md.) Public School System. Beginning in September 2002, I reduced my substitute teaching load in order to take on students for home/hospital teaching. Home teaching involves instructing students who are, for whatever reason, unable to attend school and must be taught at home.

June 1982-Jan. 1989 - Employed at the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md. as a Public Affairs Specialist. Assisted in maintaining media relations for the base by writing press releases, making phone contacts and participating in interviews with both print and broadcast journalists. Shared the community relations responsibility at the base, and was called on to conduct tours of the base for community groups. Was assistant editor for the base's internal publication, The Tester, and was a regular contributor to that publication. Wrote articles and took photos as part of that work. Maintained a two-page sports section for the paper, which I wrote and edited.

April 1979-June 1982 - Employed at Fort Dix, N.J. as a Writer-Editor. Was a regular contributor, with both text and photos, to a 12-22 page internal publication, The Post.Edited this paper when the editor was on vacation. Received my first exposure to media relations at this job.


HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

I enjoy most outdoor activities, including camping, hiking and fishing. I have an appreciation of art and music, and enjoy attending an occasional exhibit or concert. I also enjoy catching a game of professional baseball or football.

I am an active member of Middleham & St. Peter's Parish, Episcopal Diocese of Baltimore, Maryland., and enjoy participating in activities that are a part of being a parish member. I also give of my time to several local non-profit agencies.
