The Unlikely Couple

“1, 2, 3!!"

The crowd counts along with Senior WWF Official Earl Hebner.  Test, or Andrew Martin to his close friends, had just successfully defeated Joey Abs for the Intercontinental Title.

"Ahh!  No! How could this happen?" The King cries.

"I know!" JR says, "It was Stevie Richards!"

"That good for nothing.." King mutters.

Stevie approaches Ashlee, who's already in the ring, congratulating Andrew on his victory.  After a few seconds she finally notices Stevie, who has now outstretched his hand for her to shake. She grins, grabs his hand, and pulls him close, hugging him.  "Thank you Stevie!" she whispers in his ear.  He smiles, realizing he's finally been accepted and has made friends.

Andrew walks over to Stevie and shakes his hand.  "Thanks man." Andrew raises Stevie's arm as the crowd goes wild.  They make their way backstage, smiling all the way.  Backstage, all three of them are laughing and enjoying themselves. Their celebration is cut short as Joey spears Stevie to the ground.  Andrew grabs Joey by the hair and yanks him off.

"Hey, leave him alone Joey!"

"No, he cost me my title!" Joey shouts as he throws his fist out, hitting Andrew squarely in the jaw.

"JOEY!  Stop it!" Ashlee shouts, leaping on his back.

He flings her off easily and proceeds to stomp on Andrew. She tries once again to stop him, but she's unsuccessful.  Frustrated, she looks around the backstage area for a weapon. HA!  Found one!  A chair! she runs over, grabs it, then steps up behind Joey and raises the chair.

With obvious luck on his side, Joey turned around before she struck him and yanked the chair from her hands.  "Thanks," he tells her, turning his attention back to Andrew.  He raises the chair then brings it down hard on his enemy's ankle.

Ashlee runs over to Stevie.  "Stevie! Stevie!  You gotta help!  Get up, please!" she pleads.  He groans in pain.  "Wh-what happened?"

"Joey attacked you from behind, that's what happened.  Now he's trying to injure Andrew's knee!" Ashlee explains, obvious worry in her voice.

He sits up.  "Oh no!  I gotta help him then!"  He jumps to his feet and runs at Joey, knocking him down.  He punches him repeatedly, each blow landing harder than the one before.  Suddenly, Shane & Jen make their way over to the two and pull Stevie off.

"Hey!  Let go of him!" Ashlee demands, stepping toward Shane. "I'm warning you...."

Shane rolls his eyes.  "I don't think you should be worrying about Stevie right now.  You better be worrying about Andrew.. or yourself for that matter," he informs her.

"Oh shut up Shane!" she says, walking toward Jen now.  She shoves Jen, but Jen refuses to let go of Stevie's arm. "Listen Ashlee, you better listen to Shane, or you'll be sorry." she threatens.

Ashlee ignores her threats and goes to shove Jen again, but two strong hands hold her back.

"What the..?" she looks up.  "Oh God, not you.."

Rodney and Mark look down at her with stern looks on their faces.

"I thought you knew better," Mark growls.

"I don't think she'll ever know better!" Rodney chimes in.

She sighs.  “Why don’t you two just let me go, I can go get Stevie and Andrew, and we can all leave and be on our way??” she suggests, trying to break out of their grasp.

“No, you’re not going anywhere.  We got big plans for you.  First, we got to get your friends out of the way.”  Mark says, grinning.

Ashlee’s heart skips a beat and she stops struggling.  “P-plans?  WHAT plans?!?”

“You’ll see,” he replies, coldness in his voice.

Damn, where’s the officials?? She thinks to herself.  They have got to be around here somewhere.  She looks around, searching for somebody who can help. Anybody that can help.

“Ashlee, now you wouldn’t be searching for someone to help, now would you?  If so, you’re about to be disappointed.  You see, they won’t dare mess with our plans.  They know better.”  Rodney informs her, tightening his grip.

She doesn’t reply, but instead watched in horror as Joey finishes his attack on Andrew and makes his way towards Stevie.  He takes the chair and drives it straight into Stevie’s chest.  Shane and Jen drop him, and watch him fall to the ground.

“Aww, poor little Stevie!” Jen laughs.

“Noooooooooo!!!  Stevie get up!” Ashlee screams.

Mark scolds her. “Give it up child.  There’s nothing you can do now.”

She starts to sob, realizing he’s right.   There isn’t anything she can do to save her friends.  She lowers her head in sadness, refusing to watch her friends receive any more punishment.  A few minutes later, the sound of Stevie’s shouts and her enemy’s laughter stop.

She just about looks up when two arms wrap around her waist and she feels someone leaning on her back.

“Hiya sweetie, miss me?”  Joey whispers in her ear.  She shudders.

He has Mark and Rodney release their grip on her.  He turns her around so that she faces him.  He leans down and kisses her on the cheek as a look of disgust crosses her face.

“What do YOU want from me?” she snarls at him.

Joey frowns.  “Is that anyway to talk to the one you love?”  he asks.

She laughs bitterly.  “The one I love?  Who?  You?  You are sadly mistaken Joey.”

He shakes his head.  “No I’m not.  I know your true feelings for me Ash, you can’t hide them anymore. Not after today you can’t..”
He leans down again, and goes to give her a kiss.  This time, he tries for the lips.

Leaning back, trying to avoid him, she shouts. “Don’t even TRY it!”

Mark grabs her by the shoulders.  “You know you want to, so don’t fight it.”

“Eeewww, I don’t think-“ she gets cut off as Joey, does in fact get to kiss her this time.  She tries to shove him away, but Rodney grabs her hands and keeps them in place.  Joey places his hands behind her head, and pulls her closer.  She tries her hardest to fight him off, but it’s no use.  A very long minute later, Joey stops, steps back and gasps for breath.

After he finally catches his breath, he grins.  “Mmm, oh wow.  I could get used to this.”

Rodney and Mark laugh at that.  They look down at Ashlee and smile evilly.

“You just wait… Andrew, Stevie and I will get our revenge!” she threatens.

She throws her foot out, hoping to kick Joey.  He catches it in midair.  “Ooh, feisty! I like that!”

Shane and Jen walk up to Joey.  “Joey, we got to get going.  Time’s a wasting and you know Paul isn’t going to wait forever.”

Joey drops Ashlee’s foot.  “Right.  I wouldn’t want to be late for this occasion!”  He looks at Ashlee, his eyes gleaming with joy.

“What are you talking about?” she asks angrily.

Joey throws Mark a surprised glance.  “You mean she doesn’t know?”

Mark shakes his head.  “No, we thought we’d leave it as a surprise,” he says, removing his hands from Ashlee’s shoulders.

Rodney lets go of her hands.  “Yeah.  Besides, we thought it’d be best if you told her.”

“Told me WHAT?” She demands.

Joey walks right up to her and grabs her hands, holding them.  “Oh honey!  I got great news!”

She glares at him.  “What’s this so-called ‘great’ news?”

He grins from ear to ear.  “You and I are…” he pauses for a moment, watching her expression.  “… getting married!  And let me tell you, this is not a storyline.  I’m deadly serious.  Just ask your little friends, Andrew and Stevie, they’ll tell you those broken bones aren’t fake!”

Her jaw drops.  “I… you… MARRIED?!” she stutters.

He nods.  “Yes.  Today!”

She shakes her head violently.  “N-no way!  You’ll never get me to say ‘I do’ at the wedding!”

“I don’t have to.  I know how you really feel about me, Ashlee.  Ever since the first day I saw you, I fell in love.  I knew that one-day, you would become my wife.  I saw the way you looked at me, and I knew you wanted me as I want you..” he explains, pulling her in for a hug.

She pushes him back.  “Woah, woah, wait a minute here!!  You’ve got it all wrong Joey, I can’t stand you!”

Jen rolls her eyes and steps up next to Joey.  “It doesn’t matter how you feel about him.  You’re getting married and that’s all there is to it! There’s nothing you-” she points toward the beaten Andrew and Stevie,” – or your friends can do to stop it.”  She explains.  She smiles as the truth finally sinks in on Ashlee and her expression of deep sadness shows it.

Shane glances at his watch.  “Time to go!”  He looks over at Ashlee and smirks.  “You’ll thank us for this later, I promise you.”

She sighs, feeling defeated.  “Yeah, whatever.”

He rolls his eyes at her then turns his attention to Joey.  “Ready to go?”  Joey nods.  “As ready as I’ll ever be!”

He puts his arm around his bride-to-be’s shoulders and leads her off in the direction of his car.  She doesn’t struggle, but instead looks down at the passing floor, wondering what she ever did to deserve this.

A few seconds later they reach Joey’s car.  He has her get in first, sitting her in the backseat.  He follows shortly after, sitting right next to her and not letting an inch get between them.  Rodney gets in the front passenger side while Shane gets behind the wheel.

“You know where to go, right?”  The Boy Wonder calls out to Mark.

“Yeah, at the Chapel over on Willow Street!”

“Right.”  Shane starts the car up and waves to Jen and Mark.  They wave back as they make their way to Mark’s car.

The entire car ride is silent, as Shane is too busy making sure he doesn’t get lost, Rodney is too busy napping, and Joey is too busy cuddling up his soon-to-be bride.
