Peter Forsberg, in my eyes the most complete player in Swedish ice hockey of all time. His name is met with respect among any player and I claim he's one of the best ice hockey players of today. His career is a saga, filled with success and wins. As a junior he showed a little bit of what was gonna be the future. He holds the record in score in the junior World Championships. A tournament he dominated together with fellow Swede Markus Näslund. As a senior, he has won the World Championships, the Olympics 1994 in Lillehammer and he is also winner of the Stanley Cup trophy. An impressive collection of titles not many players of today can show up. He is the first swedish ice hockey player to be on a swedish stamp. It was a result from an unforgettable Olympic Final 1994 against Canada. At full time, the game was tied and in the penalty shoot outs, Peter Forsberg showed what an artist he is on ice. Even at an important event like a penalty shoot out in an Olympic Final, he can keep cool and calm, and it resulted in an, for us Swedes, unforgettable goal and the result you can see below: His NHL career started in 1991 when he was drafted 6th overall by Philadelphia Flyers (leaving his mother club MoDo in Sweden), but he never got to play for the team due to a huge trade between Quebec Nordiques and the Flyers, that finally brought Eric Lindros to the Flyers and Peter Forsberg to Quebec. The rest is history. Peter won the Colder Trophy as the top rookie in 1995 and he won the Stanley Cup in 1996 with Colorado Avalanche. Due to injuries, he hasn't been able to participate in all the games. After the return from a shoulder surgery in the 1999/2000 season (after missing 23 games), he showed his fans what they've been missing. In the debut match he showed to be a little 'rusty', netting 2 goals and 3 assists(!). "He's a quality
player, very strong on his skates," said Vancouver Canucks coach
Marc Crawford, who coached Forsberg with the Avalanche for five seasons.
"When you handle the puck as well as he does, you skate as well as
he does, see the ice as well as he does, then that's a pretty good
package to have. And the other thing he does so well is, he competes. In the 1998 World Championships held in Switzerland, Peter was one of the dominating players in team Sweden. Coached by another Forsberg, the Swedes won the Championships. Kent Forsberg, who also coached Peter in the Swedish league ended (?) his coach career for the swedish team with a top position. The story "Peter Forsberg" has just begun..
