Anders Hedberg, "A Flying Swede". Together with Ulf "Lill-Pröjsarn" Nilsson, Anders Hedberg formed what was, one of the most fearful line-ups of the 70's.

Anders career started in Svedjeholmen, went on to Djurgården (via MoDo) and on to Winnipeg Jets in 1974, where he stayed (together with Ulf Nilsson) until 1978 when New York Rangers bought them.

However, his career started a little earlier than that. His fame started in a big swedish tournament, called TV-pucken, where players up to the age of 15 fight for the title. Almost every hockey player of rang we have, has gone through this tournament, so also Anders Hedberg. He was however put into the spotlights when he played the Final with his team Ångermanland and later the same day made his debut on the Swedish league for seniors for team MoDo.

One thing lead to another, and the coach for team Sweden at that time, Arne Strömberg, has high thoughts on this 17 years old 'boy' and offered him a place in the swedish team for the World Championships 1969.

Anders turned down the offer due to his studies. But his name was gonna come up later!

Anders Hedberg made his debut in "Tre Kronor" in Moscow 1969.

In 1970, he made his debut playing for team Sweden in a World Championships. A success of course. His name was self written in the swedish team for many years.

Due to an injury, he missed the Olympics in Sapporo 1972.

He went on with his studies in 1972 at the University in Stockholm and signed up for Djurgården.

In the summer of 1974, Anders, together with 5 other swedes, signed up for Winnipeg Jets in the WHA league.

A new success!

Anders Hedberg and Ulf 'Lill-Pröjsarn' Nilsson formed a line-up together with the legend Bobby Hull.

Anders became "Rockie of the Year" 1974-75 when he beat  the goals record for rookies with his 53 goals.

Over the years, this line-up became one of the most fearful line-ups in the whole professional league and the success for Hedberg continued.

He beat "Rocket" Richards more than 30 years old goal record (50/50) when he scored 51 goals in 47 games 1976-77.

Anders passed the Superstar level (50 goals and 100 points) during all his Seasons in Winnipeg.

He is twice Avco Cup Champion twice and the 5th best scorer in the WHA history. Anders Hedberg and Ulf "Lill-Pröjsarn" Nilsson became the best paid professional players (5.5 million SEK each) when they signed up for New York Rangers.

Anders played 7 years for the Rangers before he played his last game in April 3rd 1985 in Madison Square Garden.

He played one Stanley Cup Final (lost against Montreal Canadiens 1979).

He played in the NHL team that met the Soviet Union in Challenge Cup 1979.

He was rewarded "Bill Masterton Trophy" in 1985, he played in NHL All Star team twice and was twice "Most Valuable Player" in the Rangers.

After the active career, Anders continued to work in the New York Rangers organization and later he became Talent Scout for Toronto Maple Leafs.

In Sweden, Anders Hedberg is the only player to be rewarded "Junior of the Year" twice.

Anders is now General Manager for team Sweden.
