BENT


      _____ BENT was b. & d. probably both in England. He married Agnes who was b. probably in England and  d. in 1639, at sea, aboard the ship JONATHAN, enroute to New England.[1]

     JOHN BENT, b. England abt. 1603 and died in Sudbury, Middlesex Co., MA. on 27 Sep. 1672. His birthplace and father'same are unknown; his mother's names was AGNES.[1]

     Savage reports that prior to emigration John was a husbandman in Penton, Hampshire. He married MARTHA _____.  She died in Sudbury, Middlesex Co., MA. on 15 May 1679.[1]

     In 1638 John made arrangements and he, Martha and their children - Robert, William, Peter, John and Ann (later called Agnes) traveled to the Hampshire port city of Southampton and left for New England on the ship CONFIDENCE. At this time all the children were under the age of 12 years.[1]

   They arrived in New England and settled in Sudbury. The same year (1638) John Bent returned to England on an unknown ship to bring back additional  family members. He returned in 1639 embarked upon the ship JONATHAN. During this voyage his mother Agnes, his sister Agnes Blanchard and her infant child died.[1]

     In 1639 John had a grant of land in Sudbury and was made a freeman there on 13 May 1640. Later in life he was among the proprietors of Marlborough, Middlesex Co., MA but apparently never moved there. He died at Sudbury on 27 Sep. 1672.[1]

   He made his will only a few days prior to his death. His wife Martha and eldest son Peter were made executors. He bequeathed to sons Joseph & John and to daughter Agnes Rice and her son John Rice, and to daughter Martha Howe, her husband Samuel and son John. He also bequeathed to two grandchildren, Peter Bent Jr. , son of Peter and to Hannah daughter of John Jr.[1]

    JOHN BENT JR, born in England 1626 - 1638 probably in Penton, Hampshire, England. d. Sept. 1717,  probably in Framingham, Middlesex Co., MA. He came to New England in 1638 on the ship CONFIDENCE with his parents and three siblings. Resided in Sudbury, Middlesex Co., MA with his parents. Apparently took over part of the Marlborough grant of his father. But upon his death his estate was located in Framingham.[1]

     He married 6 June 1640 to (1) HANNAH STONE, daughter of JOHN STONE and wife ANN _____ of Sudbury. She was born on 6 June 1640 in Sudbury.[1]  John married (2) Martha Rice, daughter of Matthew.[1]
