EMERSON JAMES

1910 census, Lynn, Mass ed.387 he is listed as Emmerson Jaines, born May 1855 in Maine.

Wife, Sarah, (maiden name was Glidden), born December 1856 in Canada. According to the census he was married in approximatly 1880. His parents were born in New Hampshire. He was a house carpenter. Two children:

Roberta, b. May 1882 in Maine

Fred R., b. June 1889 (per census) in Mass. He was actually born in 1888.

In the 1900 census it says Sarah's father was born in Scotland and her mother was born in Mass. (not sure either is correct). Sarah came to the U.S. in around 1875.

1920 census he is listed as Alven E. James in ed. 180

on North Franklin Street. Rented home

Sarah immigrated to U.S. in 1880 or 1881. Says her mother tongue was French (this is most likely incorrect). Says her father born in England, both parents' native tongues were English.

Sarah James, age 65 keeping house

Emerson, age 25, son, farm laborer. Says his mother was born in Maine.

Family information indicates that Roberta was known as "Georgie" – her name may have been Georgia Roberta. She married Dr. Lewis Taylor (Optometrist?) and died in 1921. She is buried in Pine Grove Cemetary, Lynn, Mass. She had worked as a clerk in a dry goods store when she was 18.

Emerson and Sarah died two days apart in Lynn and are buried in the same cemetary in the Taylor plot with their daughter, "Georgie". They died in 1929.

   Frederick Roscoe James, b. 6-18-1888. Attended for 2 years M.I.T. around 1911. Worked for Western Electric Co. and lived in various places until he married Sarah Veronica Campbell in Philadelphia, Pa. She was born 3-2-1891 in Philadelphia.Her parents were Henry Christopher Campbell and Mary Gallagher from Westmeath and Tyrone, Ireland.

Mary Ann, Colleen, and Fred all have children, including Frderick Roscoe James IV.

Frederick Roscoe James, Sr. died 2-27-69, buried in St. Gertrude's Cemetary, Colonia, NJ Sarah died 1972.

Sarah Jane (Emerson's wife) maiden name was Goudy or Gowdy from St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada. She was from a large family. Her father, John, came from Ireland in 1830. His wife was named Sarah and she was a native of New Brunswick. He was a farmer and Irish Presbyterian.
