Ecuadorian food is in many ways very similar to the US or European food, delicious and ample, highlighted by a variety of native fruits and vegetables.

It is not only the very individual way it has of satisfying the cultural and artistic tastes of its visitors that makes Ecuador so special. The traditional flavor of its food is also something very special, as are both the great range of dishes available and the countless number of wonderful places where the delightful aroma and good cooking draw in the tourist who likes his food.

Although cooking in Ecuador has much in common with other Latin American countries, it is true to say that various ingredients are used in our country which make the food served here somewhat different.

In Ecuador and in Quito in particular, the culture of corn and the potato blend symbolically together in an intense "mestizo" process and cooking is also a product of the intuition and gastronomic creativity of the city's ancestors. This is why it should be said that this is not only traditional cooking, but also something which preserves that incomparable flavor of times when the family sat down together to lunch or supper based on grandmother's wisdom, as if it were an intimate ritual where they could enjoy the meal and talk over life's pleasures.
