Munkustrap peered behind the rock. Four toms guarded Macavity's cave. This should be easy enough. He turned to everyone. "Alright, Cassie, time to take your part in the game." She nodded. She was just about to go when Alonzo grabbed her arm. He kissed her as if he was never going to see her again.
"Be careful," he said.
"You know me," she said smiling up at him. She said bye to the others and started to walk past Munkustrap.
"Cassie," Munkustrap said. She turned. He smiled at her, "Thank you." She smiled back and went on her way to the guards. After a few moments of talking, they let her in. That was Bombalurina's cue. She did her seductive walk towards the guards. They stared at her in awe. She motioned them to come to her. They started to follow her behind a bush. Munkustrap held "offs" and "roars" and then nothing. Bombalurina stepped out of the bush. She wiped her paws together.
"Well," she said. "Shall we go in?"
Demeter watched Macavity sleep. She looked at the door. It was wide open. She could escape but for some reason she didn't want to. Suddenly, Cassandra walked in. She sneered at Demeter. "Macavity!" Cassandra yelled. Macavity jumped to his feet so fast, Demeter almost screamed. He shook his hair, then looked up at Cassandra.
"Yes, Cassie, what is it?"
"I'm sorry if I woke you."
"Nonsense, I was wide awake. What is it?"
"I did what you told me. I got rid of Munkustrap." Demeter's eyes immediately filled with tears. She hissed at Cassandra.
"No!" she shouted. "No!" She jumped on her and knocked her to the floor. She grabbed her throat and started to choke her. "You minx! You minx!" She felt paws grab her shoulders and yank her off of the Siamese.
"Demeter!" Macavity yelled. "Demeter!" He dragged her back into the room and threw her onto the bed. She tried to get back up and attack Cassandra again, but Macavity laid on her and held her down.
"Hey!" a voice came. Macavity and Demeter turned. Munkustrap appeared into the doorway along with Bombalurina, and Alonzo. "That's my wife!" Macavity growled. He leaped off of Demeter as Cassandra stood up. He glared at her, "
You!" he said. "You lied to me! You changed sides. I will not tolerate traitors!" He ran towards her and before anyone could stop him, he swiped her face. She fell to the floor.
"Cassie!" Alonzo cried. He held her in his arms. Munkustrap kicked Macavity hard enough that he flew halfway across the room. He landed on his back and groaned a couple times. Mukustrap pulled Demeter into his arms.
"You're alive!" she said.
"Don't worry," he said. "I'll get rid of him for you."
"No, Munkustrap!" she said grabbing his arm. "No, don't." He just stared at her.
"Why? After what he's done to you? After what he's done to us?"
"Please Munkustrap, let him go." Macavity started to get up. He charged at Munkustrap. Just when he got to him, Munkustrap sheathed his claws and thrusted them into Macavity. He gasped as he looked down at Munkustrap's claws sinking into his body. Munkustrap pulled them out and Macavity dropped to his knees. Then he collapsed to the floor, dead. Demeter choked on tears. Bombalurina came up to her and put her arm around her shoulder and covered her eyes. Demeter sobbed into her chest. Munkustrap stared at the dead cat. He was gone; the Jellicles were safe. He turned to Demeter.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I-I didn't mean to…"
"At least he suffers no more," Demeter murmured. Another gasp caught Munkustrap's attention. He turned and saw Cassandra in Alonzo's arms. There were scratches along her chest. He, Demeter, and Bombalurina rushed to her side. Munkustrap held her paw while Alonzo held the other.
"M-Munkustrap?" she coughed.
"Yeah, Cassie, I'm here."
"I'm so sorry," she said. Munkustrap shook his head.
"It's alright. You did everything you could." Cassandra turned her head to Demeter.
"Demeter, I'm so sorry. I was a fool." Demeter licked her cheek.
"I forgive you Cassie, you're safe with us."
"Is Macavity…"
"Yes, he's dead." Bombalurina answered for her. Cassie smiled.
"Heavyside Layer," she whispered. Then she died in Alonzo's arms.
Alonzo tried to hold his tears but was unsuccessful. He bursted into sobs as he pulled Cassandra to his chest. He held her head and looked into her lifeless face. Everyone else was mourning along with him. Munkustrap reached out and touched her closed eyes. "Life to the Everlasting Cat," he whispered. Some cat was coming. Everyone turned and saw Mistoffelees.
"I'm sorry, the guards must have awoken and they attacked me. I tried my best to…" He noticed the dead Cassandra. "Oh, Everlasting Cat." He fell to his knees. He stroked her face. Then he closed his eyes. He laid his paws onto her forehead. Mist started coming out of his paws. Alonzo started to protest but Munkustrap held his mouth. Mistoffelees eyes started to twitch, as did his paws. Suddenly, he yowled as he was hurled against the far wall. Munkustrap leaped over to him to see if he was all right. Alonzo looked at Cassandra. Her eyes snapped open and her body jerked up. Alonzo held her steady.
"Cassandra!" he said to her. He turned her face to look at him. "Cassandra! It's all right. It's me." She stared at him for a moment. She raised a paw to touch the black spot around his mouth.
"A-Alonzo?" she said weakly. "W-what happened t-t-to me?" Mistofelees managed to get up.
"Was there ever a cat so clever as magical Mr.Mistoffelees?" he simply said. He knelt before her and kissed her paw. Munkustrap and the others walked out of the cave. He looked down at Demeter and she looked back at him. Immediately, he bent down and kissed her. She threw her arms around his neck. He lifted her off the ground. They pulled away and laughed. He set her down slowly as she licked his nose.
"I love you, Munkustrap."
"I love you, Demeter." A paw slapped him across the back of his head. He turned and saw Bombalurina behind him. He slid an arm around her waist and kissed her forehead. "And you too, of course." Alonzo and Cassandra came up to them followed by Mistoffelees.
"Umm, Munkustrap, Cassie and I were wondering something. Since you cats are planning on getting married again. We were wondering if it was going to be a double wedding. Cassie and I want to get married too." Munkustrap and Demeter looked at each other with opened jaws. They looked back at the couple.
"Of course!" Demeter said, hugging Cassandra. "I don't think I would have it any other way!"
"This is going to be the best ceremony in Jellicle history!" Munkustrap said to Alonzo. He placed a paw on his cheek. He made a fake sniff. "Oh, my Alonzo is all grown up now." Alonzo rolled his eyes. They all laughed as they left Macavity's lair…. for good.
