When we first bought our West Virginia house, there was a unusable above ground swiming pool built into a 24 x 60 foot deck. We decided to cut the deck in half and create a pond area at one end. The upper side of the deck was supported by a retaining wall, so when half of the wall was removed it was necessary to make it into a steep sloped hill. This hill would be where we would build a falls.
