THIS PCTURE WAS TAKEN AT FURNACE FEST 2002. THIS NTERVIEW WAS FROM June 2003. SINCE THIS INTERVIEW ELLIOTT IS ON ITS LAST FOREVER TOUR AS IT IS TODAY AND WILL BE BREAKING UP FOR THE MOMENT> BUMMER THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS TODATE. THIS BAND COULD OF BEEN AS BIG IF NOT BIGGER AS THE CHURCH IS IN MY EYS AND EARS. THIS WILL LEAVE A VERY BIG VOID IN MUSIC TODAY. ELLIOTT YOU WILL BE VERY MUCH MISSED. THANKS TO CHRIS AND TO BENNY FOR A GREAT TALK.

TALKING WITH ELLIOTT

Elliott is currently signed with Revelation Records and currently on tour. Elliott is a very inspirational emotional band. They take pictures and make them come alive with even deeper meanings. The alternative pop music they make is at times very dreamy and saturates you. IF you are into the Australia band The Church you will definitely appreciate this up and coming group. Recently I caught up with lead vocalist and writer Chris and the newest bass player Benny at the Chain Reaction in the parking lot in the tour van to conduct this chat. Here is what transcribed:

How does your own music you create effect you?

Chris: It is a definite mirror image of all the members together. It is definitely my voice a lot of my thoughts my interplay on words and what not that goes on a daily bases. All of this comes out in our music. Then the textures through the guitars and rhythms that Benny and Kevin and pretty much who ever is playing base for us at that moment and at that time everyone puts in their harts and souls into the music. So it is balanced together to create this one kind of force. Benny, Kevin, Myself, and who ever is playing bass at that moment, combine our hearts and souls into the music to create this one kind of force.

Tell us something about you Benny and explain how does the sound get so well produced for every release?

Benny: This is my first CD with the band. Chris and our drummer Kevin have a lot to do with the orchestration and producing our record. Kevin did all the engineering for this new recording by us. We made this record at Kevin’s own studio. So our drummer has a lot of many talents.

Isn’t this the second line up change as membership goes for Elliott?

Chris: Yeah as far as members changes. It’s crazy but all in a good way. I like playing with Benny. Actually it has been 11 years but we had a band back then together. It was a huge big deal for me when he recently was able to join Elliot. This is how originally wanted it to be to being with members wise. This is just what Elliott needed. It was destiny.

Chris, with so many changes going on before this record, why didn’t you make a sole record?

Chris: It wouldn’t fulfill me to go solo. I see so many textures and orchestrations in the songs that there is no way that I could do anything solo.

Since you are the newest of the band what is you favorite new song by Elliott on this new CD Song In The Air and why Benny?

Benny: I have never listened to the new record one song at a time. The only way I can like the new album Song In The Air is by listening to the whole thing. I can’t just listen to just one song. But, the one song that comes to mind that I like is the new song Bleed In Breath Out. It is a very moody intense song. I like it because the song was written but there is another version of the song too. You can also here us as a band do different thing with this song as a band. You can really tell as each instrument starts to come into the song. I love the lyrics of this song too. Kevin and I had a lot of work to do on this song editing my guitar tracks. But I was able to do a lot of strange things and cool guitar things with this particular song.

So Chris what song do you like off the new record Song In The Air and why?

Chris: There is one song that just sticks with me called Carry On. It is the second track on the new record. I like the way that it sounds. It is a very sincere song. I Like the vocal approach that came across on the record. I enjoy the way it sounds. The song is about moving on and about letting people finding their own way in life.

How did the opening track come together? It is so different from the whole album.

Chris: It is the shortest piece on the new CD. It was just done with vocals, strings and a little guitar. It comes across very well. The title is called In The Air. The song is just a verse and a chorus and ends. It is like poetry.

So why did you stay with Revelation Records for this your second release?

We have been with Revelation for a long time now. They have helped us as much as they can. At the time we got signed with them they had just got done with some bands I really liked for example Since Field, Texas For Reason and Shades Apart. So as we came in when that was ending. They are currently getting back to their roots and Elliott are staying right here.

Elliott are a very profession band and play their instruments very well. This was a very enjoyable interview. The new album is Song In The Air and it’s a gem of a great artistic album indeed.
