The contract also includes a team option for a 4th year. They then had to look to fill the void of the departure of Bowman. Speculation for the longest time was that they planned to stay within the organization by promoting either Barry Smith or Dave Lewis. Barry Smith is returning as an assistant coach, while they promoted another person in the organization to be the second assistant. Former Wings enforcer Joey Kocur will be the other assistant.
