Monthly Feature        December 2001

Merry Christmas !

And now, on with the regularly scheduled White Rose Monthly Feature

London Playhouse

This centerfold from the Spring 1947 White Rose News reminded me that simpler and
less hectic days existed before television and shopping malls . Reminded  may not be the
correct word , because I wasn't even born yet when this advertisement was published .
Radio was the entertainment of the day  and a great advertising medium.
The following is the text of the above ad:

A cavalcade of the finest British productions of stage and screen with the original casts.
Presented each week over many broadcasting stations from the Atlantic to the Rockies
and brought to you with the compliments of your local WHITE ROSE DEALER.
Listen in and enjoy the sensational British "Theatre of the Air". Each program is
complete in itself and runs for a full half-hour .See your White Rose Dealer  or local
newspaper for current featured play, radio station and time .

Plays include "This Happy Breed", "Seventh Veil" , "Brief Encounter" , "Queen Victoria",
"Wicked Lady " , "In Which We Serve" , "Bedelia" , etc.

Hear and enjoy such famous artists as Robert Donat , John Mills , James Mason ,
Stewart Grainger , Anna Neagle , Margaret Lockwood , Deborah Kerr , Patricia Roc
and many others .

"On the Air" about May 1st

Master of ceremonies
LESLIE MITCHELL
Famous British actor

Someone has added, in pencil " 9:00 , station 850 - C.F.R.B".  Similar ads confirm these broadcasts , recorded in a studio in England, hit the airwaves "From the Atlantic to the Rockies" for at least a year.
That would soon change, as slowly but surely televisions entered Canadian homes.
