Non X- Men Poem: The Great Fire

The Great Fire

A blazing fire, little smoke
Scalding those who warm their hands
Flames reach high and tease the senses
Heat disguises the cold of night

All is safe and cozy by the blazing fire
All are blinded by it's brilliant light
Caught in the moment
Lost in the heat

It's a night of marshmellows and all things sweet
Air is filled with choir songs, laughter and love
The sparks fly high, tantalizing
Soon to disappear

The night goes on silently
As the fire crackles on
Smoke begins to fill, the deep starry sky
The heat is smoldering but begins to die down

Flames create images, intensity is lost
We grow weary as the night countinues on
Cold begins to leak in
Periodic is the heat

Swirling clouds surround, the flames of deep orange
Oxygen is lacking and help is in need
We stir the fire, add more logs
To return the heat

We grow weary of the fight, the wood begins to lack
One more log, one more try, we pray for it to catch
The fire licks the branch
It crawls up it's leg

Fingers crossed, we pray for the flame there was meant to be
It tickles, it tantalizes, but leaves us with no hope
Ashes are all that's left
Of the great fire we once knew

Black ashes cry out, as the pain has come
Remember the flames were there, reaching to the sky
And how the fire has been put out,
But the smoke still lingers on.
