My Lvov Home Page

I am going to scan some of my pictures of Lvov pretty soon so please check this page for changes from time to time.

For people who know Lvov, I lived on Kosmonavtov (Pid Dubom) street, near 700-letiya street. I know the town very well. I miss Lvov very much and I would like to come back one day.

Lvov is a major economic and cultural centre in the Ukraine, one of the country's oldest and most original cities in the Ukraine. Founded in the mid-13th century by Prince Danilo Romanovitch and named after his son Lev, it is first mentioned in documents dating from 1256. This date is considered to be the year of the city's birth.

The city had an advantegeous geographic location, lying at the intersection of roads connecting East and West. Important trade routes passed through Lvov, promoting the development of the city into a large trading centre. People from various countries settled here bringing different cultures and traditions. Down through the centuries all this has left its mark on the city's appearence and in particular, on its architecture.

Let us walk along Lvov's narrow streets, and take a look at the city from the High Castle. This city is a unique historical and architectual complex formed over a period of many centuries. Here you can sense the breath of different epochs, and the silent stone becomes living history.

In the distance is the unique tower of former Town Hall, surrounded by an ensemble of ancient buildings in Rynok (Market) Square where almost all architectectural trends and styles are represented. The square is the centre of the city's trading and public life. It is successfully complemented by fountains in each corner, built in the classic style and decorated with sculptures.
