The Ibanez Black Eagle Bass

History

The Black Eagle Bass was made on a limited basis by the Ibanez Company in 1975 & 1976. Click here to see other Ibanez 70's Limited Models. This vintage and rare instrument is very ornate as you can see from the pictures. It has an Eagle inlaid under the pickguard made of "Mother of Pearl" ( a fancy name for Oyster Shell!) The position markers on the fret board are also ornate symbols of some kind.

The bass guitar has a heavy mahogany body with a maple neck and fretboard. The neck and sound is similar to a "Fender Jazz". It has an incredible tone and infinite sustain do to the heavy wood body, actually it has a deeper richer tone than the "Jazz" and is very playable except for the body scroll that hooks your hand if you venture towards the highest notes on the fretboard. The pickups provide a warm deep bass tone just like those "70's" bass tracks you hear on "Classic Rock" Radio Stations..

NIRVANA-BLEECH

The bass player, Krist, of NIRVANA used a Black Eagle on the recording of "Bleach" and then on tour. Click here for

Krist's Equipment Log.

This Bass is extremely well built and can handle "Nirvana-style " abuse without a problem. Do you remember Krist throwing his bass into the air at the MTV awards?! The weight of this bass puts a hurting on your back and shoulder if you wear it for extended lengths of time. You need a wide strap on this Bass if you plan to do three sets a night!
