     BIOGRAPHY SUBMISSION INFO

It is very simple to submit a biography to the Virginia Biographies Project. Prepare your biography submission by creating a text file and email the text file to me. You may get help with creating text files by reviewing the Text Editing Section on the Indiana State Page. HTML and email files are also acceptable. If you have questions or problems submitting your files, please let me know! Here's what you need to submit with each biography:

1. Your name and email address.
2. The name of the person the biography is written about.
3. The source of the biography. Please let me know what book and page number you copied it from. If you wrote the biography yourself, please let me know that!!

I will add each submitter's name and email address on the Members page when their biography is added to the web page. If you do not want your email address listed, please let me know at the same time you submit your biography!

Please be aware that by submitting a biography to the Virginia Biographies Project you have given permission for representatives of the Virginia Biographies Project to examine this file for the purpose of extracting the names of individuals for indexing purposes. Biographies may also be edited to append the name and email address of the submitter.

Submission Guidelines

This is first and foremost; DO NOT post materials protected by copyright other than your own!  Any posted biographies found to be protected by a copyright of someone other than the submitter will be removed from all Virginia and/or County Biographies pages.  Books and biography collections printed prior to 1928 are generally not protected by copyright and are considered to be in the public domain.   Photo-static reprints or duplications of pre-1928 works are not protected by current copyright.  The short story here is: Make sure your source books are pre-1928 originals, or reprints or copies of pre-1928 originals.  Make sure all original works are accompanied by your copyright notice, which is at the least the word "copyright", your name, and the date.

Coordinators Guidelines
 

Here are the requirements for all County Coordinators, please read this entire page before e-mailing me:

1. Links to the following must be on every County site:

Virginia Biographies:

2. You must maintain a Volunteer list. This list should be posted somewhere on your page.

3. You must maintain a list of books or other materials being used. This list should be posted somewhere on your page.

4. A link to the Virginia Biographies Project must be posted somewhere on the first page of your site, with a link back to the Virginia Biographies Project Home Page. The official logo is in the works. I will let everyone know when it is completed. Until then, a text line is fine.

5. US Biographies currently has no Logo, until they do one of the US Biographies logos below must also be posted.

6. The first paragraph on the sample page must be displayed somewhere at the county site.

7. You must subscribe to Virginia_BIO-L email mailing list. This will be available in the near future. E-mail me if you have questions.

8. Every Saturday the names of all biographies posted during that week must be posted to the Virginia_BIO-L mailing list by each county coordinator. There may be times when someone who does not have internet access requests a copy of a particular bio. This is the main reason why this was set up, please oblige them.

9. Other than the requirements listed above, this is your site to do with as you please!

One note: All biographies posted to any county site will be copied and archived by the Virginia Biographies Project. This is needed to insure that all biographies will be freely available to everyone for a very long time! :-)
