Inspiration and Humor

Here's some inspiration and a little humor to help cheer you up when you've had enough of that weird girl who sits first chair, or the kid with the trombone that sits behind you in band who keeps emptying his water key on your shoe.. :)

Lynn Johnston and Bill Watterson are my favorite cartoonists. Here are two strips from Lynn Johnston that my mom cut out to cheer me up.

Here's one of my strips. The Zucchini Girls will get a space of their own pretty soon. :) :)

These quotes are taken from Paula Robison's Flute Warm-ups Book, which is awesome and you should get it if you don't already have it. :)

"Musical training is a more potent instrument than any other because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul."

-Plato

"Never regard your study as a duty, but as the enviable opportunity to learn to know the liberating influence of beauty in the realm of the spirit for your own personal joy and to the profit of the community to which your later work belongs."

-Albert Einstein

And from the Old Testament: Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his Temple!
Praise him for the mighty things he had done.
Praise his supreme greatness
Praise him with trumpets.
Praise him with harps and lyres.
Praise him with drums and dancing.
Praise him with harps and flutes.
Praise him with cymbals.
Praise the Lord, all living creatures!
Praise the Lord!

-Psalm 150

And the late Jean-Pierre Rampal, who will be sorely missed:

On perpetuating Flute Fever

"You must simply love to play the flute. For me and for most flutists it is like a disease. Some people play the flute but are not impassioned by it. They may play at it one or two times a week, but serious players develop good habits early on. If you practice while you are young, your flute fever will remain with you. Never a day will go by that the flute doesn't beg you to be played. Make it sing, even in the simplest of phrases, and you will grow in that love of the flute making music."

-September 1986, Flute Talk Magazine

If anyone has any quotes or jokes to share, (i.e. Q: How do you get two flute players to play in tune? A: Shoot one...) please e-mail me and I'll post them up here! :)

Get back!
