"Hello... my name is Jan."
I know this page is going to take awhile to load, because, not only do I have a lot I want to share with you,.... I tend to be a bit long winded, sometimes... :) But if you hang in here with me, I think you'll enjoy your visit.
I was born and reared in Central Kansas. I have spent most of my life in this area, which I attribute (along with the guidance of my parents) to my character, morals and standards. Which among others, consist of such things as;
HONESTY and TRUTHFULNESS: One rule I like to follow is that, "If you always tell the truth, then you don't have to try to remember what you've said"..... Think about it....
RESPECT: When respect is given by one, it is earned from the other. In other words, you can't expect respect form someone if you are unable or unwilling to give them respect.
CRITICISM: Destructive criticism is just that, 'destructive'.... But constructive criticism can be a very advantageous tool. With constructive criticism you are able to learn and excel in the areas where others may have the advantage. Therefore it is important to keep an open mind regarding constructive criticism.
PROMISES: To often someone will tell you that they are going to do something, but never do it. Unless you are SURE that you CAN and WILL do what you say, than don't say it. "Broken promises cause broken hearts" Wouldn't it be better to say "I'll try" or "we'll see" rather than to say "I will"...?
AMBITION: If you always do your best and know in your heart that you have done your best to accomplish/obtain your goals, ( even if you fall short of your expectations ), then no one can expect more of you. However, it is my conviction that one should regard their short comings as merely "set backs" verses "defeats". In doing this you have left the door open to try again. If you believe in yourself and trust in your abilities, you will eventually succeed.
HUMOR: A healthy sense of humor is also important to me. If you take life to seriously you miss out on a lot of laughter...... and laughter is good for the soul.....
I could describe my personality as being like;
What's in a name?...
Some believe your name determines the type of person you will become.... Well, may be.... But a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.
Mother wanted to name me Janet... but in the eleventh hour daddy decided that I should be named Janice.Like many, I've never been crazy about my given name.. Most of my life, I've gone by Jan. Affectionately, my family will call me Janie. My sisters children, when they were young, called me Aunt Jan Jan.
As is customary sometimes, my brother John, was named after my dad. It wasn't until I was researching names for my own children that I discovered that Janice is the feminine version of John... so as it turnes out, daddy had two children named after him.. I don't know that he ever knew that.. we lost daddy June 17, 1998.
Because I was tiny as a young child, daddy nicknamed me PeeWee.. As I grew bigger the nickname grew shorter, to Petey. When I started talking on the C.B.radio, back in the early 70's, my C.B.handle was "Petey Girl".Sometimes, the truckers, couldn't understand what I was saying and would ask me to repeat. So I'd tell them, "Sounds like a Peterbuilt, built like a Petey Girl".... haha.. they got it every time that way. When I started driving the mail truck I changed my handle to the "U.S. FeMail"... because other C.B.'ers would misunderstand, thinking I'd said "P.D.Girl", {Police Department Girl}.... couldn't have them thinkin' that!!
Guess I've pretty well been called everything in the book at one time or another... some not so good... haha... But it hasn't changed who I am.... I am still as I am....
I enjoy most all types of music, except { 'Rap' & 'Hard Rock' }.... Equally ranking in and competing for Number One slot, would be 'Country Western' and 'Classical'. (the Alpha and the Omega). I've been to see in concert:
I haven't seen him in 'live concert', only on television... But I'm in Love with 'Yanni'! And let's not forget 'Kenny G.' ... his music can do things to me.
Some of my favorite song titles are:
And my MOTTO: "I'VE ALWAYS BEEN CRAZY, BUT IT KEEPS ME FROM GOING INSAME"
Then there's
Some of my all-time favorite movies might include:
I'm an avid reader... I love to read and can get hooked on most anything. In fact, I love reading so much that I go to bed with a good book every night... Some of my favorite authors are:
A cyber-friend sent me this... He said it reminded him of Jan .. .. I ask him how many Jan's does he know???.. ... I laughed 'till I had tears in my eyes while reading it.. And yes.. I had to send it to friends. “Dod-O-Dod... what did I do before I had 'Mac' in my life ..????”
You know it is time to reassess your relationship with your ("DAMN-MAC") computer when...
1. You wake up at four O'clock in the morning to go to the bathroom and stop to check your e-mail on the way back to bed. 2. You turn off your computer and get an awful empty feeling, as if you just pulled the plug on a loved one. 3. You decide to stay in college for an additional year or two, just for the free Internet access. 4. You laugh at people with 56k modems. 5. You start using smileys :-) in your snail-mail. 6. You find yourself typing "com" after every period when using a word processor.com 7. You can't correspond with your mother because she doesn't have a computer. 8. When your e-mail box shows "no new messages" and you feel really depressed. 9. You don't know the gender of your three closest friends because they have nondescript screen name and you never bothered to ask. 10. You move into a new house and you decide to Netscape before you landscape. 11. Your family always knows where you are. 12. In real life conversations, you don't laugh, you just say "LOL, LOL" 13. After reading this message, you immediately forward it to a friend!
By occupation, I'm a computer consultant, specializing in tech support.. I also teach "HTML & Web Design" as well as "Intro to the Internet & Email", through Hays Rec. Commission.. I guess you could call me a computer geek, because when I'm not working with computers, I'm playing with them... ; )
My favorite pastime would be playing with this "DAMN-MAC". Like so many, I've become hooked... I use my Mac as my 'work machine' & my Presario as my play toy.. ; ) One of the things I enjoy the most is making web pages...(some call it creating...haha... ), ..large, ..small, it doesn't matter.. I just enjoy doing them... I had them all listed here, but there got to be so many that I had to remove some of them.. First chance I get, I'll work-up another page, mount them all on it and link to it.. OKay?... OKay.. Boy, your easy to get along with.. ;o)
Looks like I finally got that, " chance". click on "chance" to see more web pages.
I've done my patriotic duty, by creating " Land Of The Free " and " Home Of The Brave " .
This one is sort of special to me.... It's a little something I wrote not to long ago..... It's about a G.I., I use to know.... I'd like to dedicate this page to all the G.I.'s who've served our country so bravely..... I've named it "Silent Message" .
This one was written for a wall arrangement that I made, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when...... I still have the arrangement hanging on the wall in my bedroom.... ( there are some things you just never get rid of )....; ).... The arrangement and the poem are called , "Passions Of Love".
Sometimes we have to go where our heart takes us.. These have become a couple of books of poems, so I've created separate web sites for them.. I call the sites, "Maverick Angel" and "From Abby, with Love".
Another year coming to an end, how short the time, it seems... But I've not had idle hands.. as you can well see.. For from my heart, comes once again, the verses spilling over.. That I'll share with you within this link, if you'd like to look it over.. "Visions From My Heart"
The heart wrenching poem under this link was written by a beautiful little lady that has become a very dear friend of mine.. Her name is Edna Snyder, she is 84 years young and she is a student of mine.. taking privet computer lessons from me.. In April of 1998, she buried not one, but two of her sons on the same day.. One son was very ill, the other son was his caretaker... the caretaker son died suddenly one day and the ill son died three days later... So sad and had to be a terrible trauma for this wonderful, strong, lovely lady... She wrote this poem for her two sons on the 56th birthday of the one son, on May 22, 1998. The poem is entitled.... "A Broken Heart" If you don't read anything else on my page, I would like for you to read this beautiful heart rendering tribute to, James Earl Harrell 5/22/1942 to 4/9/1998 and Kenneth Mark Harrell 8/27/1947 to 4/6/1998.. by their loving mother, Edna Harrell Snyder. Thank you, Jan
My Family Page, which is really my Home Page... the first one I made, I call " Welcome To My World ". And those I use for my business pages.. which I call, " NewView Photo Labs. " ... and, " Web Creation & Design ".
A more recently added page is one I call "YesterYear, when I was young..".
Now for my most 'fun' page.....You'll have to visit Web Humor. I've had so much fun creating and updating this one.. because of you all...
However, I do have other hobbies. I enjoy doing creative works, such as art, crafts, crochet, tatting, ect.... many of which can be seen on the above link, "Welcome to My World".... I made a miniature village, HO scale, (old west style) three years ago. I find my most serene moments being out in my back yard , listening to the birds and doing my gardening... vegetable and flowers... I love my flowers... Grooming and spending time with my horses... just being with them, where it's peaceful and quiet, it's easy to forget that you may have other problems... My dogs are a big part of my life.. I have five little Yorkies and I love each of them as if they were children... they're good company.. always let me know when something's going on outside, and are always abound with joy when I come home (even if I've been gone for only a short while).... And like children, they each have their own personality, each different form the other... Petey , for instance is the most vocal... I've nicknamed him "Newt", because he's the "speaker of the house"... His real name is "Abbyon's Lit'l Adamson PeeWee". Then there is Adam and Angel . And we can't forget Baby Magic and Suzzie who's registered names are "ValleyView Magic Kandu" and "Abbyon's Lit'l Angel's SuzzieAnna" .
Do I collect anything?... haha.. Yes.. I collect everything !, ....such as stamps, ..coins, ..old photographs, ..belt buckles, I keep old favorite books.....I still have all of my old 8-tracks and LP's....And let's not forget all the dust all this junk,.. OH !.. I mean, these treasures collect....haha
I don't actually collect them, but over the years people have given me some unusual T-shirts that I've saved. One that I really like, says, "The U.S. FeMail".... It was given to me as a gift from my Brownell, Post Masters, Karen Funk, when I drove the mail truck. "The U.S.FeMail" was my C.B.Handle... ......I've never worn the T-shirt......
My favorite all time love stamp is the "Puppy Love" stamp. You are looking at a CHOCOLATE "Puppy Love" Love Stamp.... My Utica, Post Master, Mr. Plank, gave it to me as a Christmas gift in 1992..!!.. It's been in my freezer ever since.. I hate to admit it, but I was sooooooooo hungry for chocolate candy the other night, I came within inches of eating it.... ....but..... instead..... I scanned it, so you all can share it with me... If you'll notice the plastic wrapper is still on it.... Wonder how long chocolate will keep in the freezer...?? Anyone got any ideas?...... I've had this one frozen for seven years...ha ha..
I never throw anything away, because just as soon as I do, I'll need it... You might say, I'll collect anything that doesn't collect me first!.. haha
.........."Sanford & Son", ain't got nothin' on me babe !!.........
I wasn't like most little girls, who wanted to be a teacher or a nurse when they grew up, I wanted to own a horse ranch in Montana or Wyoming..... I've always loved horses...
Have you ever looked out across the pasture on a bright spring morning when the sun sparkled dew is still heavy on the grass and seen your mare and foal frolick, head held proud and tail flowing in the crisp breeze?
Pure poetry in motion, in my opinion.
A horse is a very large and strong animal... yet gentle and affectionate.... He is warm and sleek to the touch and vertually rippling with powerful muscles... His devotion is such that he will run until he drops dead if a person requested that of him (which I would never do )... He is curious and intelligent with a hint of playfulness... He is a free spirit that loves to run with the wind..... Treated with kindness, he will do anything you ask of him and go anywhere you guide him... He doesn't mind carrying a heavy burden on his back.... He is a good listener and doesn't try to give you a lot of back talk.... His only requests are that you care for him lovingly and feed & water him regularly...
My favorite "toy" as a child was my horse.. but he wasn't a toy.. He was a real live walkin', talkin', eatin', sleepin', poopin' horse, and that's no 'hay'!!
I was four years old when daddy brought him home, 'green broke'. Me, being the dare devil that I was, was the one to brake him to ride, with daddies help, of course.. Daddy would hold his head and help me on, then let go of his head. In all of two seconds I would be air born. I can still hear daddy saying, "Get back on Petey, you have to show him who's the boss.", heck, I didn't care who the boss was, all I wanted was to be able to stay on!!... ha! After countless tries, the poor horse finally decided he wasn't going to be able to get rid of me and gave in. We became inseparable. I would ride him all day long and be in my seventh heaven. If anyone were looking for me, all they would have to do would be to check the horse corral, if I wasn't there and the horse was gone, they'd know where I was.. Out riding.
For a long time we couldn't make up our minds what to name him.. One day my cousin, Kathy, came over to ride and she had a bag of candy in the hip pocket of her jeans. The horse pulled the bag out and started eating the candy. From that day on his name was "Candy"
We had a red, silver studded saddle that we used for 'dress'. I had a cute little red with white fringe 'cowgirl' outfit with the hat and boots that we would use for parades. We also had a regular saddle that we would use if the other kids wanted to ride, but most of the time I didn't take the time to saddle up when I wanted to ride, I'd just jump on bareback and off we'd go.
He was a Shetland pony. I grew, but the pony didn't. So when I got big enough so that we looked out of proportion to each other, my family would tease me and say, "Why don't you get off and let the horse ride for awhile".. ha! Most of my fondest childhood memories are surrounding my horse.... Here's my older sister, Annie & Candy .
......"Yheeee-Haaaaaa !!!!!"......
In my opinion, the horse is the most beautiful creature the Lord has ever created. Dog is considered man's best friend, but I disagree. The horse is man's best friend. If it hadn't been for the horse I had at the time my husband was killed, 5/22/82, I don't know what I would have done... He was my confidant, my companion, my friend.... I could wrap my arms around his neck and he would lay his head across my back and hug me close while I'd cry on his shoulder. He would drink a beer with me and listen to all my troubles. When I'd set on the fence rail, he would lay his head in my lap and listen to me for hours. He was a good listener and he always understood what I was feeling. He knew I was hurting and he was so gentle and conpassionate with me. He was my best friend.. His name was "Dandy" and yes, he did drink beer.... I would open a can and hand it to him, he would take it in his teeth and tilt his head up and guzzle the whole can in one shot...... funny, but true....
Ask me, "If I could 'Do Lunch' with anyone, who would it be?" I'd have to tell you.......
............................"Hey there, Big Boy......"
"A Cowboy!"....
Cowboys turn me inside out.... and I don't know why..... But everytime I see a 'wrangler' butt, wearing a western hat and western boots....... 'I fall to pieces'...... I see a cowboy hat on the street and I have to look... it's involuntary.. I don't even realize I've done it, till it's done... I'm talkin' about a REAL cowboy now... Not some 'Rhinestone Cowboy' dude.. who thinks he's a real big stud because he can wear a western hat, boots & and a BIG SHINY belt buckle.... Shucks, I'd even forgo the lunch..........
@)} -->-- SMILE.... IT MAKES PEOPLE WONDER WHAT YOU'VE BEEN UP TO.. --<-- {(@
Although I've never considered myself a gambler, I do play the lottery once in a while. And when I win that BIG ONE, I know just what I'm going to do with the money. For starters, I'll pay off all my debts. Sell my house and go to Montana or Wyoming and buy the ranch I've dreamed of all my life.{That's the selfish side...}Next, I would see to it that all my younger family members, such as grandsons, nieces & nephews would have their college education.I'd give my son, daughter, my mother and each of my siblings some. And I'd give the Shriners Hospitals for Childern, a BIG bunch.....
By then I'd probably be broke!....but what the heck, "ya' can't take it with ya' "...."I've never seen an Armored Car following a Hearse"....
I graduated from Hays High School and attended collage at Fort Hays Kansas State University. I probably enjoyed my art classes the most... Especially the one when I wore my sisters new shirt and got paint all over it... LOL Annie....{ hugs }... During my high school days I played the saxophone... In college I took Acoustic Guitar.... And at one time I played the piano/organ..(self taught) Don't tell anyone, but I wore ear plugs while I played.. :)Again, self taught, I play the harmonica.... (You should hear my dogs 'sing' when I'm playing the harmonica..... LOL
I'm not into joining organizations, clubs or special interests groups.... At least not anymore... In my opinion, most of the people I've been involved with in organizations were a bunch of 'single sighted', 'power mongers' and 'hypocrits'...
(Unless.. "The American Kennel Club" and "The American Quarter Horse Association" counts)...
"At first I saw God as my observer, my judge, keeping track of the things I did wrong, so as to know whether I merited heaven or hell when I die. He was out there sort of like a president. I recognized His picture when I saw it, but I really didn't know Him. But later on when I met Christ, it seemed as though life were rather like a bike ride, but it was a tandem bike; and I noticed that Christ was in the back helping me pedal. I don't know just when it was that He suggested we change places, but life has not been the same since. When I had control, I knew the way, it was rather boring, but predictable... It was the shortest distance between two points. But when He took the lead, He knew delightful longcuts, up mountains, and through rocky places at breakneck speeds. It was all I could do to hang on! Even though it looked like madness. He said, "Pedal!" I worried and was anxious and ask, "Where are you taking me?" He laughed and didn't answer, and I started to learn to trust. I forgot my boring life and entered into the adventure. And when I'd say, "I'm scared." He'd lean back and touch my hand.
He took me to people with gifts that I needed, gifts of healing, acceptance and joy. They gave me gifts to take on my journey, my Lord's and mine. And we were off again. He said, "Give the gifts away; they're extra baggage, too much weight." So I did - to the people we met; and I found that in giving I received, and still our burden was light. I did not trust Him, at first, in control of my life. I thought He'd wreck it; but He knows bike secrets, knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners, knows how to jump to clear high rocks, knows how to fly to shorten scary passages. And I am learning to shut up and pedal in the strangest places, and I'm beginning to enjoy the view and the cool breeze on my face with my delightful constant companion, Jesus Christ. And when I'm sure I just can't do anymore, He just smiles and says... "Pedal"..... "
......"The Road of Life", by George Anne Dixon......
I was ask, in my opinion, "What do I think a person would notice first about me?"... Well, I had to think about that one for a while......hummmmm... I think that yesteryear it would have been, my "long hair" , ... but like Samson...... it's been all cut off !! .... G'bye strength............. :) ..
"I think I can... puff, puff.... I think I can...... I think I can......"
NEVER SAY " I CAN'T "....because...."CAN'T NEVER DID ANYTHING"..
Thanksgiving 2001, once again founds us at my son, Ethan's, home where family and friends gathered to give thanks for all the beauty and wonder of our lives.. My daughter, Jana, took this shot of me finishing up the stars on the American flag I'd crocheted for my grandson, Trenton's, Christmas gift that year.
On the day I discovered that my dear sister had lost her adored little friend and companion, her family pet dog. she sent me this quotation:
A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to: "Where do pets come from?"
Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us."
And God said, "No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."
And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.
And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."
And God said, "No problem. Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."
And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them. And they were comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail.
After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said,
"Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well."
And God said, "No problem! I will create for them a companion who will be with them forever and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration."
And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.
And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings. And Adam and Eve learned humility. And they were greatly improved. And God was pleased. And Dog was happy. And Cat didn't give a shit one way or the other.
