Darb Alintifada's Symposium on Women's Rights in The Sudan:

Dear Sudanese sisters around the world,

Darb Alintifada cordially invites you to participate in its on-line political symposium which will be conducted over the global internet to address the women's rights in the Sudan.

The goal of this important symposium is to allow DA to help resolve a pressing question regarding the Sudanese women's representation in the NDA organs, in general, and the NDA Leadership Council, in particular. The Symposium's findings, suggestions and recommendations will be appropriately addressed to the upcoming Asmara meeting of the NDA Leadership Council before the closing of this year.

To help us make this symposium a successful forum, please inform DA Coordinator, as soon as possible, whether you are interested to participate in this forum as a main speaker or as a commentator. Also convey your feed back, if any, on the plan and topics of this Symposium to the Coordinator.

THE SYMPOSIUM AGENDA:

(1) Women's Representation in the NDA:

*Exposes NDA to a critical assessment regarding its policies and practices towards the Sudanese woman's participation and representation in the NDA Leadership Council and the other NDA activities. Please note the NDA announced statements about women at the end of this message.

(2) Performance and Policies of the Sudanese

Governments egardingWomen's Rights in the Sudan:

*Accounts for the policies and practices of post-independence governments and the existing NIF rule towards the women's rights in the Sudan. Main differences between dictatorial regimes and democraticlly-elected governments?

(3) Women's Participation in Sudanese Social Structure:

*******************************************************

*Focuses on gender relations in the Sudan in the light of production relations in the country, as well as the other structural factors. What are the root causes of female/male differentials in the Sudan?

THE PLAN OF WORK:

(*) The first round of the symposium discussions is confined to women's speakers and commentators. All contributions to be sent directly to DA coordinator: april1985@hotmail.com

(*) The second round of the discussion will be allowed for Sudanese men interested in women's rights in the Sudan to comment on the first round.

(*) The third round of the discussion will accommodate comments and views from all parties concerned from around the globe, including women's speakers and the participant men.

(*) The DA Coordinator will edit the Symposium findings and resolutions to be appropriately addressed to the NDA upcoming meeting in Asmara.

The NDA looks forward towards the establishment of a national women's organization concerned with the Sudanese women issues. It also looks forward to the formulation of a women's charter embodying her aspirations and stipulating her rights. It reiterates its commitment to the representation of women in all the organs of the NDA in a manner commensurate with their contribution and struggle."
