Dear Symposium Coordinator,

The Sudanese National Party (SNP) supports the Women's Symposium and hopes that these effort ends up sussessfully to improve the women's status in our New Sudan.

The Party wishes to announce that, in response to some of the discussions which mentioned, the SNP's program and concerns, the SNP is a Northern Sudanese political party. This affiliation is definitely emphasized in the national, historical, and political terms, in addition to the geographical location.

The Party Program is being addressed to all the Sudanese people, indiscriminately. The SNP is composed of members from all parts of the country. The Party sprang from the amalgamation of many political groups of which the Itihad Jibal Al-Nuba was one of the major parties.

The founding members of the SNP contained leaders from all parts of Sudan. Of these we mention, for example, Father Philip Aboush, Dr. Edward Lino, and, Sudan's martyr, late Sayed Hassan Al-Mahi, who passed away while performing his national duties in Eritrea for the cause of the People of the Sudan.

The composition of our party was clearly reflected in the late democratic elections of Sudan in 1986 when our President, Father Aboush, won Al-Haj Yousif Constituency in Khartoum, the National Capital of the Sudan. Al-Haj Yousif, as is well known, is one of the largest residential areas of Khartoum in which the Sudanese people from all parts of the country live together and share the difficulties of life and the hopes for a better life.

The SNP has continued to work very actively to enlarge political allegiance to SNP National Program for the advancement of All People of Sudan amongst the masses. Our candidates competed in geographical regions and for graduate seats in Kodofan, Darfur, Gezira, the South, the National Capital Khartoum, and the city of Shendi. We won 8 dear constituencies representing our membership and supporters in the northern provinces and the Nuba Mountains in North Sudan. With this victory, we proved SNP's increasing influence and democratic potential for a greater role in Sudanese politics, in general, and North Sudan, in particular.

These are the facts about our party for those interested. With our best regards to the important Symposium of Darb Alintifada.
