Respite is a program that allows a family a break from the pressures of dealing with an ADHD child. Troy goes to a respite family twice a month. He leaves on Friday, and usually returns on Sunday. This allows both Troy and I a break from each other, and allows him to interact in a completely different environment.
There had been no men in my life, except for casual dating, that my children could interact with and respect until January of 1997 when I met Jim. I was afraid when I told him about Troy, that he wouldn't understand and would walk away. Jim didn't leave when I told him about Troy, and now he's a big part of my son's life, and the most important thing is, they love each other.
