The well visited Sai Yok Noi picnic area

Follow Highway 323 to Sangkhlaburi, about 100 kilmeters from the provincial town, this is the Sai Yok National Park. There are 2 Falls in this Park, Sai Yok Noi and Sai Yok. The Sai Yok Noi is just at the roadside of Highway 323 but about 20 meters above the road level.

Our first impression of this roadside waterfall was that "this waterfall couldn't be natural!" Like everything Thai, they can recreate fantasy and this fall is no different then those we are acquainted with in the downtown large shopping malls.

This Sai Yok Noi, incidentally meaning minor "Sai Yok" The slow speed used[1/60-1/90 secs] to take this picture in the shaded park could have partially accounted for the cotton effect of the water falling down. In reality, the water that are gently sprayed down projects the same looks that create the fairy tale enviroment of this fall.

Here the water free fall for 20 meters smoothening the uneven cliff walls on it way and regenerate more sprays upon each tiny obstacles..

At the base of the fall, calcium deposited on the floor over the years has accumulated into a flat platform and this level floor carefully redisturbute the water over a broad area. Water just runs down the gentle and terraced slope as a thin film.

The smooth floor, yet anti skid, has encouraged visitor to walk all over the waterfall area, enjoying the feeling of playing with flowing water and no fear of slipping.

This Sai Yok Noi incidentally is branched from the top. This and the next photographs are scenes from the left flank. The fall here cascade dwn a steep slope reaching the base without any levelling off.
For us who had seen many waterfalls, this waterfall and those in Kanchanaburi limestone area are totally breathtaking.

As a nature lover, we were so disheartened to see visitors tramping all over the "safe" waterfalls.

For those who come after seeing this site. If you ever drop by this waterfall, please rethink before you follow the crowd to have your souvenir photograph taken while standing in the middle of the waterfall.
