John Emerson was born about 1751 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and died 17 Feb 1836, of cancer, in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., Kentucky. John served in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. John Emerson was commissioned Lieutenant 16 Dec 1776 and served in Captain George McCormick's Company. He served in the 13th Virginia Regiment under Colonel William Russell. After the battle of Germantown in 1777, he was appointed Captain. From 1778 to 1780 he served under Colonel John Gibson's Regiment in Pittsburg. John Emerson was also a private in the War of 1812 in Captain James Allen's Company.

John Emerson was married to Catherine Johnson on 17 April 1777 in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania. This was also her 17th birthday. John and Catherine had 13 children. Their daughter, Catherine or Katy, married Abijah Humphrey, son of John Humphrey and Elizabeth Forbes, on 5 Jan 1801. Abijah Humphrey was my GGG Grandfather.
