"CROSS-ROADS"

Joshua 24:14 "'Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, WE SHALL SERVE THE LORD.'"

Life has it's many cross-roads,
Times of decisions to make;
There are no short cuts…really,
Reality…we cannot forsake.

From a tiny embryo,
Into the world…we're thrust;
This was our first cross-road,
Life the choice for us…I trust.

From a place of protection,
Into a place that makes us cry out;
If creature-comforts are lacking,
The world will hear of it…no doubt!

Nurturing…protective care,
For most of us…though…not all;
Talking…and then walking,
So much to learn, when we are small.

Again, another cross-road,
As off to school we go;
Not really our decision,
Still, necessary…to grow.

Many years of education,
Both at school and at home;
Choices to make and tests to take,
Until…body and mind are grown.

Another cross-road looms ahead,
College…career…marriage;
Some will choose all three of them,
But, don't let that discourage.

Children or no children,
Or wait a little while;
A clock here and it's ticking,
Only forty years to be fertile!

So many choices…so little time,
A house to buy or rent;
Everything cost money,
And, that is quickly spent.

Or shall we save and save,
No real life ever have;
Everything…off in the future,
The future we're hoping to have.

Still, others live "on the edge",
Their whole life is a risk;
One…entire lifetime,
Rushing past…in a whisk.

So very many cross-roads,
In each and every lifetime;
What will be your decision,
How low or high shall you climb?

But, look…another cross-road,
This one is HUGE in size;
A major decision coming up,
The one with the ultimate prize.

One road leads ever downward,
The going…rather easy;
Appearances are deceptive,
But, it shall determine your destiny.

The other road goes uphill,
In places…it's hard to climb;
This one requires a Helping Hand,
And…the climb lasts a lifetime.

With that LAST cross-road,
Off there…on the horizon;
How much easier it would be,
If early-on…we made that decision.

Let's place our hand…in His Hand,
Walk daily with our LORD;
Mountains don't seem as steep,
And, the rivers easier to ford.

Perhaps there was a cross-road,
Somewhere…way back "there";
Did we, somehow miss that one,
And, we had a lifetime of despair?

Let's pray it didn't happen,
To you and to me;
That we…somehow missed it,
The opportunity…IN Christ…to be free.

Thankfully, it's never too late,
To turn to our LORD;
The best and lasting decision,
With Him…to come onboard!
