************
A time of respite for my soul,
For I have grown so weary;
Things that were alive for me,
Now, have become dull and dreary.
It's time to put all things aside,
And, on my Father…lean;
To focus on His unfailing Love,
And, from His Word…to glean.
Sometimes, with too much human effort,
We wear the body out;
Now, time to step aside,
Pull back from this man-made drought.
Time for cool refreshing,
This body to restore;
I'll let Him minister to me,
Can't do it by myself…anymore.
If you have grown weary,
Weary in well-doing;
Just step aside…put down your load,
He…your burdens…sharing.
Why do we try so very hard,
To do it by ourselves;
When shall we ever learn…
I can't do it by myself.
Surrender all your efforts,
Stop spinning your wheels;
Take many deep breaths,
Let Him…your body heal.
New life shall spring forth,
Not of ourselves…but Him;
We'll experience…His life,
Giving us new vigor and new vim.
Now, that's the kind of energy,
I need…to complete the task;
The Power of Almighty God,
All…and more than we can ask.
And, ask…we shall do,
While down upon our knees;
We recognize our weakness,
And, to Him…our heart…now pleas.
It's good to see our weakness,
For when we're weak…He is strong;
But, why do we struggle so,
When we knew this…all along?
He always had it planned so,
Knowing we'd need Him;
From the beginning…saw the ending,
That we…by ourselves, would never win.
Thank God for His foresight,
And, always His helping hand;
Once more…refreshed in Him,
We are well-equipped to stand.
Our hearts refreshed…body restored,
Not in our own strength…standing;
But, leaning on those Ever-lasting Arms,
Our God…forever praising!
