IN THE GARDEN

Luke 22:39 “And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.”

************

A garden is a pretty place,
A place to find inner peace;
So tranquil is the setting…there,
‘Tis truly God’s masterpiece.

I know that I’ve found comfort,
While taking in its beauty;
Just to take a time of respite there,
A 'time-out' from all of life’s duties.

We can take in all its splendor,
All the flowers, birds…the trees;
And, a calmness comes upon us,
From our cares…we are freed.

Sometimes, we come with heavy hearts,
We feel beat-down…grow weary;
A lot is piled upon our ‘plate’,
But, inside…we feel empty.

You see…this peace isn’t forever,
Because we have so much to ponder;
We’ve been carrying a heavy load,
One…that we must give to Father.

We ask Him for His blessing,
For…we know how much He cares;
We’ve asked others to pray…also,
Just for a time…to be with us…there.

We think that we have the answer,
Yet, sometimes we pray amiss;
Sometimes our answer is so very far,
So far away…from His.

We think we know what we need,
And, we need it…right away;
We ask by faith…believing,
And, that is how we pray.

We wonder why He doesn’t hear us,
We wonder where He’s gone;
We pray…we fast…do penance,
Who does His favor rest upon?

He doesn’t seem to be there,
The heavens are as brass;
What can we do to get His attention,
So that He will hear us…at last?

But, then…a ray of light,
At first…it’s just a glimmer;
Inside…we hear His voice,
And, it makes us quiver!

“My child, I know that you grow weary,
From carrying such a heavy load;
But, why do you try to carry,
This burden…all alone?

“I see the end…from the beginning,
And, I know what’s best for you;
Remember, My ways are not your ways,
I know what is really best…I do!

“Let My life come forth,
It’s buried…deep within;
No struggle, strain and sleepless nights,
This is My rest…now enter in.”

If we are wise…we will surrender,
Not my will…but Thine be done;
We could have found His rest…early,
But, we chose our own way…to run.

So, let’s remember…early-on,
To seek His will…in every matter;
Then, we shall know His perfect peace,
The will of our Heavenly Father!
