************
I walked across a barren land,
Swept bare by a ragging fire;
Not even one tree remained,
Nothing here…the heart would desire.
Perhaps, when many years have passed,
New life…would start again;
There seemed to be no hope at all,
Put on "hold"…nothing could begin.
I plod along…kicked up some ash,
The wind caught it…it blew away;
Everything seemed so bleak,
In this place…I did not want to stay.
Not even stumps remained,
Let alone...an entire tree;
Barren…barren everywhere,
As far as the eye could see.
I chanced to bend…pick up a stone,
On this…for life...my quest;
It would not budge…dislodge,
With a kick…I gave it my very best!
As the stone was wrest aside,
What was this…that I did see?
A bit of white and purple…here,
Where only grey used to be.
These white and purple flowers,
Now able to lift their heads;
Bobbed and weaved…in the wind,
New life…new life…God's promises.
Don't ever give up,
Go just one step further;
Amazing…what we shall see,
Even in a burned-out area!
