Oft times it has been said,
The way up…is down;
To be great…we all desire,
Nobody wants to be the clown.
But have we stopped to think,
Of what our LORD did mean;
When He girded Himself with a towel,
And, before His disciples did lean?
He who was made a little lower,
Then the angels at His birth;
That He might experience death,
That we might have “new birth”.
And, then Christ Jesus washing,
The feet of His disciples;
Becoming a servant for them,
He…who had not known sin.
Do you suppose He was teaching,
A lesson we needed to know;
That the farther we ascend,
The farther down we need to go?
If we would be great in His kingdom,
A servant we must become;
The way up…is down,
And, not agreeable to some.
Is this the way to rule and reign,
To share a place on high;
Certainly not the world’s way,
This, we cannot deny.
Yet, isn’t His way always best,
On His judgement…we can rely;
His plan for us…so far-reaching,
That too…we can’t deny.
The way up…is always down,
Humble yourselves and in His time;
He shall exalt us…as He has said,
A waste of our time…to try to climb.
His ways are always best,
And they are Eternal…too;
Our ways so temporary,
We’ve found this to be true.
Gird yourselves…fall on your knees,
And, do the Master’s work;
A thing of beauty shall emerge,
And, God will get the glory!
