This is the story of two women,
Plucked from the Old Testament oath;
Important enough are they,
To be mentioned in them...both.

The Old Testament shows,
Things that in the New Testament would be;
Man's efforts as naught,
This, we shall come to see.

Abraham had two sons,
Ishmael born of the bondwoman;
And, Isaac…born of the free,
Sarah…his wife…the free woman.

Hagar was the bondwoman,
And, Ishmael born of the flesh;
Sarah was the free woman,
Isaac born of God's promise.

These things are symbolic,
Speak of two covenants;
One from Mt. Sinai…bondage,
The other, Jerusalem…which is free.

In our times…the true Believer,
Is a child of the promise, too;
We're born of God's Spirit,
This is God's covenant…the New.

Why go back and forth,
Old Testament and New;
If the Old had worked,
Would God have brought in the New?

And, today…why do we try,
To combine the two;
If the blood of bulls and goats sufficed;
Why would we need JESUS' blood…also?

A decision we must make,
To be in bondage…or be free;
Why would we want the two,
Line-up with one…on that one, agree.

Old Covenant…or New,
Daily sacrifice…or atoned;
The law…our schoolmaster,
To bring us to Christ...alone.

And, when Christ has come,
Into our lives…to stay;
Why would we fall back…upon,
The Old Covenant that has passed away?

So, choose you this day,
Whom you shall serve;
The bond or the free,
His law or His grace….observe.

A mixture…our LORD hates,
We cannot have both;
Like oil and water…don't mix,
Lukewarm…He also does loath.

What does the law do,
Of what can it boast?
Keeps people in bondage,
Controls them the most.

God's grace…perfect sacrifice,
Has set us free;
Of the free woman we're birthed,
And, always shall be!
