************
As we grow older and older,
More thankful we become;
The little things we took for granted,
Have now become…awesome.
No need to dwell on what used to be,
It's gone…forevermore;
With a twinkle in our eye…we can look back,
Still, we're thankful some things are o'er.
Now, it is the thoughfulness,
And, kindly little deeds;
That we are so thankful for,
On this we all agree.
The phone call and the "Howdy-do",
The smile and warm handshake;
Thankfulness…high on the list,
Of this…make no mistake.
So too, our LORD looks for thankfulness,
In the people He has chosen;
Not because He needs anything,
He knows hard hearts must be softened.
He knows of what we're made,
Because it's He who made us;
A thankful heart…works both ways,
To the giver and receiver…thus.
He's teaching us His very nature,
For, like Him…we would be;
The giving of thanks…in all things,
O LORD, make me more like Thee.
