Let the wild bird go free,
It would not…should not;
In a cage…forever be,
Into a life of bondage…brought.
So much like this wild bird,
We captivate ourselves and others;
Drawing…ever-drawing to ourselves,
Ourselves and them…we try to smother.
Let the wild bird go free,
It was meant to soar;
To fly to the highest heights,
It's freedom…not ignore.
Are we so bound to people and to things,
So afraid to go against tradition;
That we're content to never see,
And, to "be"…because of these omissions?
Or, have we drawn others to ourselves,
Never allowing them to be free;
So afraid of losing them,
Only through our "glasses"…let them see?
Let the wild bird go free,
Free to soar and free to sing;
A thing of beauty and awe,
A bird in flight…free…gliding.
I think we'll find the things we feared,
Will dissipate…will vanish;
A thing of beauty shall emerge,
Let the wild bird go free!
