OPULENCE or ABUNDANCE?

Mat.19:23 “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a RICH MAN shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

John 10:7 “Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more ABUNDANTLY.”

An opulent lifestyle,
One of plenty and ease;
Isn’t that what we all work for,
Totally out of control …almost a disease.

We toil and sweat a lifetime,
Amassing things of worth;
Just to have them stolen from us,
By thieves…death…which is worse?

These “things” can we take them,
Along with us…when we pass on;
Or leave them to others,
When we…ourselves…have gone?

Our LORD has promised an abundant life,
To those who will believe;
One that is filled with hope,
To all who have received.

Our focus is on things eternal,
In that direction…we head;
While here on earth we travel,
And, by His Spirit…we are led.

Each day has such promise,
Another miracle around the bend;
And, when our time here is over,
Our walk with Him doesn’t end.

Let’s make that decision…today,
Opulence or abundance…our choice;
Worldly or eternal,
And, in this we have…voice.

We don’t have to be poor,
To have Father’s abundant life;
To own “things” isn’t bad,
As long as “things” don’t control our life.

Even our time…use it wisely,
Be good stewards of everything;
But, always keep in mind,
That…none of our “toys”…we can bring.

Do the things that really matter,
Things that have eternal worth;
A hand out-stretched to help others,
Perhaps lead some to that “new birth”.

Each day becomes something special,
Never knowing all it will bring;
An adventure we are on,
This journey with our Lord and King.

I call this the abundant life,
Each day…never one the same;
To know and love and trust Him more,
That’s the reason why Christ Jesus came.

An abundant life He offers,
Take Him at His Word;
An abundant life…you shall receive,
Once you call Him…Saviour…Lord!
