BLESSING AND CURSING

James 3:5 “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth BLESSING AND CURSING. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”

I knew a man…many years ago,
Under a curse was he;
His days were dark…his nights long,
From this curse…he could not break free.

Another…well-meaning…perhaps,
Had spoken words that ‘put down’;
And, down…he was…most certainly,
Lower…lower than the ground.

Our words can call forth life,
Or, they can speak death;
Lift-up ourselves or another,
Or crush…taking even their very breath.

There is power in the tongue,
Choose your words wisely;
Not to be hurtful…destroying,
But, always administered…lovingly.

This man had a dark cloud,
That followed him around;
No matter what he did,
This curse did still abound.

I saw him lose all joy,
His life was put on ‘hold’;
This man became a prisoner,
Because of the words…he had been told.

How many times have we spoken,
Words that curse…not bless?
How many times have we ‘put down’,
Leaving others in duress?

Don’t take words…lightly,
For by them…worlds were formed;
God spoke…it came to pass,
Everything that He has created.

But, there is good news…my friend,
For this man was set free;
Another came…spoke the word he needed,
Making things as they should be.

He pointed out a Scripture,
That broke the prison bars;
A true man of God will do this,
God’s love…applied…leaves no scars.

The man was set free,
God’s Word will always do that;
With blessing…He will bless us,
By His Word… LIFE... He has begat.

Let’s be careful what we say,
A blessing…always to impart;
Words that uplift…encourage,
Like the Words from Father’s heart!
