Colossians 1:25 “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ IN you, the hope of glory:”

The words disciple and discipline;
How very close they are,
Just two tiny letters added,
So near…and yet so very far.

A disciple…one who follows,
The teachings and the life;
Of one who is the leader,
Leading us…sometimes into strife.

Discipline is soon to follow,
For…we cannot remain the same;
Our life takes a new course,
A different direction from whence we came.

Now, there are many leaders,
And, those who like to follow;
Does the outcome lead us down,
Or upward…to a brighter tomorrow?

There are no quick gains,
No easy way to the top;
A leader who says so…isn't truthful,
That one’s plans shall soon flop.

When the day comes to an end,
Who do we look like?
Are we fashioned in this leader’s image,
And, our LORD…the Christ…forsake?

Discipline…on the other hand,
Requires commitment and persistence;
No quick-fix…for us…here,
No avoidance…only prudence.

That’s where these two tiny letters,
Change everything…making the difference;
That’s where IN enters…making,
A new kind of alliance.

IN two tiny letters…'tis true,
But…Oh, so powerful are they;
Listen…just a little longer,
And, I’ll tell you what they say.

Disciple and Discipline,
That means…to get involved;
To be so ‘one’ with another,
The leader is seen…not I…as supposed.

As a disciple…a true follower,
The leader’s character comes forth;
Is that character…just ‘temporal’,
Or ‘eternal’…and of great worth?

If we could see the end from the beginning,
Different choices…we would make;
We’d follow after ‘eternal’,
And, ‘temporal’…we’d forsake.

I know a real Leader,
‘Eternal’…to the core;
He was and always shall be,
One worthy to follow…for sure.

As we follow on…to know Him,
We are changed…day by day;
For His life is birthed within us,
As we walk with Him…along the way.

Because we chose ‘eternal’,
His life…is now within;
The life of the disciple,
Is a life of discipline.

It’s not I…but He who lives the life,
No longer I…but Christ;
When you see me…don’t see me,
This life is His…please see the Christ!
