DESERT PLACE

Isa. 35:1 "The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.
2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God."

Have you ever been to the desert,
A place that's drab and bare;
No life seems to be there,
Just sand and sand dunes…everywhere?

Void of life…just solitude,
Wind-swept mounds of nothingness;
No trees…grass…flowers,
One word to describe it…emptiness.

Can this describe your life,
Especially at this time;
Everything is meaningless,
This is your frame of mind?

Well, come with me to the desert,
And, we shall see…what we shall see;
Is it really as lifeless,
As first we thought it to be?

Over here…just one small flower,
All by itself, it stands;
But, my…a thing of beauty,
As we look out across that barren land!

As we walk on…over that dune,
What is it that we see?
Oh my…a tiny creature scurries,
Beneath that long-dead tree.

There is life…even in the desert,
And, so it is with us;
When we are dry and lifeless,
Don't settle for the nothing…look for the plus!

There's a great and mighty desert,
Sahara…by name;
For its barrenness and vastness,
It has acquired great fame.

Does your life seem like the Sahara,
A dry and lifeless spot?
Just look all around you,
Tell me a place where God is not!

Let the strong winds blow around you,
Send those mounds of sand about;
Uncover what is beneath it all,
You will see things of beauty…without a doubt.

All of us journey through desert places,
More or less…from time to time;
They can be times of great growth,
All throughout our lifetime.

Mountain-top experiences,
Are what each one of us desires;
But, it's in the desert places,
In the burning bush…that Moses saw God's fire. (Ex.3:2-4)

Don't draw back from the desert place,
It's all part of God's plan;
This is where He meets with us,
Then, takes us to a fertile land.

And, that walk with Him from lowly,
Unto the mountain-peaks,
There's nothing quite like His fellowship,
When it's His voice we seek!

Oh yes, there is beauty in the desert,
In the desert places;
For here and there…as we journey,
There is the occasional oasis.

The times of refreshing,
Fountains of spring water;
Palm trees overhead,
Times of respite…and of prayer.

Look for the beauty, in your desert place,
Use it as a time to draw closer to our LORD;
Then, that desert shall blossom,
Blossom as the rose…to the GLORY of our God!
