************
LORD, my hands are empty now,
When, once they were so full;
All those plans…I had,
I discovered, they were all…my will.
How I tried to please You,
Did all that I could;
Wore myself out…completely,
Trying to do all that was good.
Years and years of good works,
That measured in the thousands;
Like Cain…of old,
I brought the work of my own hands.
And, like Cain…not accepted,
Not what God required;
Yet, so hard I tried to please Him,
Still…not what God desired.
How many times we try,
To Him…be well-pleasing;
Still, not His will for us,
This lesson we are learning.
Think about it…a minute,
Why was Abel's offering accepted;
The first-born of his flock,
The hope for Abel's future…still, he trusted.
And, when we turn from our good works,
The Cains of today;
Jealous…surely will become,
And, we…they shall want to slay.
Banished these Cains shall be,
With the mark of Cain upon them;
Cast out of God's garden,
These, shall God condemn.
Thank God…He had another plan,
When this had gone amiss;
Adam had yet…another son,
And, his name was Seth.
Our gracious God made provision,
He had appointed another;
Instead of Abel…who was slain,
Who was slain by his brother.
In time, Seth too…had a son,
His name was Enosh;
Then men began to call,
Upon the name of the LORD.
All our lessons could be learned,
From reading God's Word;
So much time and effort saved,
If we, too…called upon the name of our LORD.
Empty hands…Oh, empty hands,
But a good place to begin;
Nothing we have to offer God,
Only a life of sin.
And, He gladly took that life of sin,
So many years ago;
Again…made provision,
And, always it shall be so.
Christ Jesus…always the same,
Now, and forevermore;
God's promise to mankind,
Promise…to restore.
So, bring your empty hands,
Out-stretched, to Him…in need;
We cannot do it by ourselves,
To His will…we now concede.
Let Him fill your heart,
Fill…to overflowing;
With Himself…precious LOVE,
Empty hands…but, with heart's overflowing!
