FIRST LOVE

Revelations 2:1 “Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy FIRST LOVE.
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”

Oh, those early days of FIRST LOVE,
When our hearts within us…burned,
We were so very much in love,
Constantly together…for this we yearned.

We read all we could…about Him,
Came to know Him so very well;
All we could do was talk of Him,
This zeal…caused our hearts to swell.

We told others all about our love,
Some were excited…some were not;
Still, we spoke of Him constantly,
And, the change in our lives…He’d wrought.

We awoke every morning,
Great expectation…for each day;
We spent more and more time with Him,
And, hung onto every Word…He did say.

Then, others began to tell us,
Of the mighty works…we could do;
And, we got busy doing them,
Away from Him…we grew.

Oh, it didn’t happen overnight,
He just slowly slipped away;
We had our own ‘program’…now,
So, our FIRST LOVE couldn’t stay.

We got so very busy,
Building His kingdom…of course;
Bigger and better and more,
So…why now…the remorse?

We began to miss our time together,
It…too had become ‘programmed’;
Maturity…it’s called by some,
But, why had those times become so bland?

Truth be told…we’d begun building,
Man’s kingdom and not His;
Somewhere along the way,
We’d been side-tracked…gone amiss.

Let’s get on our knees…acknowledge,
Then, ask His forgiveness;
For you see…He too has missed,
Those blessed times of fellowship.

Come back to your FIRST LOVE,
And, keep that love brand-new;
Don’t let things…even good things,
Come between the two of you!
